im on crutches right now too :stickyman and its bloody knackerin! lol. best way is too use both. if you just use one its agony on your hip and lower back. i cant use my foot at all but im guesing its the same 'technique' just when you put the crutches down put your affected foot down as well, so most your weight is on the crutches and some on your leg, and then swing your unaffected leg through etc. take small steps and dont rush

thanks 4 the reply.

How long should the crutches be? longer than ur legs? also do u feel ur arms could snap because of the crutch handles pushing fowards?

I find that its agony on your hands and wrists after a while. If you still want to use the injured leg, walk normally but bring both crutches forward with the left leg (if you see what I mean). I used one crutch for a while, but it can get uncomfortable.

Oh, and all your friends will want to play with them.

the crutches should be so when your standing with them by yoursides your sholders are down and relaxed, your hands shouldnt b higher than you hold them when relaxed

thnks guys. When i use them i notice i really have to push down on them to lift me of teh ground.....should i make them smaller? am i meant to be lifting of teh ground fully, or just enough so i can move my injured leg???

Of course you have to push hard on them, you are lifting your entire body weight!

If your doctor gave you the crutches, why did he not show you the correct way of using them?

yh he did...but ive been getting problems so thts why im asking.
I was on crutches almost all of year 5, it's no fun! Although as someone mentioned, all your friends will play with them. One tip I picked up, regarding hands hurting: Take some soft cloths, wrap them round the handles and fix them either with a bit of tape, a pin, or a sock or a tubigrip bandage, Makes life on crutches just slightly more bearable!

So phone him and ask. He's a qualified doctor who can help you.

How can you have problems using a crutch? You asked what the technique is to using crutches, and this is something that your doctor should have shown you.
