Hi, I live in Unite student halls in a studio flat in Glasgow. Since I have moved here, as I am living alone my anxiety disorder has gotten severely worse to the point where I am not sleeping and having panic attacks a lot more frequently. I have found a flat mate (as company make me feel a lot better), and can move in with them at the end of the month but can't find anyone to take over my room. Will I be able to cancel my contract with them and not still have to pay the remaining rent instalments ? I don't really mind about losing my deposit but I cant afford to pay 2 rents ? If anyone has any information or has been in my situation could they please let me know, thanks

When I was with Unite, they let you leave early provided that you find replacements (because you signed the contract). But having said that, in London, some Unite houses have a waiting list, so you just had to talk to the receptionists. They will find a replacement for you. Not sure about Glasgow.

Do talk to them, but it's highly unlikely that they will let you out of a legal contract unless you find a replacement. They're a profit making company (owned by venture capitalists, if my memory serves me correctly) who aren't prone to losing income voluntarily.

    Hi Abbeyyy7,

My name is Frankie, I work for UNITE. I'm on TSR to give help and advice to students living with UNITE.

I'd like to arrange for you to speak to a member of your on site team - can you let me know which property you are living in.

They will be able to discuss your situation with you and look at your options.

    Thanks,
    Frankie
