The Nuvaring

I heard about the nuvaring i think on TSR and i heard it did exactly the same job as the pill so was interested, i asked my GP about it and she said she had never heard of it and its probably not registered in the UK yet. Can anyone who has tried it from other countries please give me some information about what its like and when and if it is gonna be available in the UK? Thanks.

Yes I can.
It is registred in Germany and a lot of people are interested in it, because the firm is advertising it heavily. The hormone dose is lower than the pill's and that is what makes it so attractive.

But: I am in the medical profession and I also thought that it was a good idea so I discussed it with a specialist gynaecologist/obstetrician and she told me that contrary to the firm's info of a perl index of about 1,4 she has experienced a pearl index of around 4 ! Meaning 4 out of 100 women got pregnant within 1 year. That is a lot.
So the Nuvaring seems to be a good idea for

people in a steady relationship who could cope with an unexpected pregnancy

older women (>30) who are not as fertile any more (chances are lower they will fall pregnant)

Contrary to my first thoughts about Nuvaring I must strongly advise you to either use a condom with it, since the chances of getting pregnant are fairly high. It is not an option for people who want to be nearly 100% certain they will not fall pregnant. It is a good idea, and hopefully it can be developed into something more secure.

Here you will find the firm's info.

But take into account: the experience in "real life" ( not the firm's studies) have shown that it is not as effective as they tell you.
