Does the study also show that women's clothes cost less than 3 times as much as men's clothes?

Woman are socialised to believe that most of their worth lies in their physical appearance, so they spend more money on their appearance.

    - Clothes can do a lot for a woman, and men are visual. Women get clothes and make-up to appear attractive to the opposite sex whereas men spend their money on things which signalizes status to appear attractive to women (cars, gadgets..). Fashion also communicates personality and says something about you.
    - Women are more centered around esthetics, so clothes is a popular way to treat oneself (and it doesn't have any other negative effects than money going out).

Strangely, a lot of the times I walk through a clothes store, I see that, when an item of girl's clothing looks similar to an item of guy's clothing, the men's item is often more expensive.

    For example

    Name: 61431306_l.jpg
Views: 84
Size: 6.7 KB

    is £7 while

    Name: 36100803_l.jpg
Views: 80
Size: 6.5 KB

    is £15.

Men just need to wear a suit and they are sorted for everything (bar sports). Women need different outfits for different occasions. Thus they need more clothes, thus they spend more on buying these extra clothes.

    True story.

This is hardly surprising. In the clothes store that I work at, the womenswear section is a lot bigger than the menswear section, and it's probably the same in many other unisex stores. When I used to work in a charity shop, we also had a lot more women's clothes than men's clothes. I think women just tend to be a lot more into fashion than men. Not too sure on specifically why, just one of those things that are a bit different between the two genders.

A man can wear the same suit on numerous occasions and just swap the shirt and tie whereas the woman will need to get a different dress each time.

If a female celeb was to turn up to numerous red carpet events in the same dress you know the magazines will be full of articles on it, whereas I know for a fact that at least some male celebrities will wear the same suit for years and very few people will notice.

Men also tend not to mind wearing a suit on one occasion, and then wearing the same suit a little while later for a different occasion (involving the same crowd of people).

Whereas I get the impression that once a woman has been seen in a dress or something, it wouldn't be perceived as socially acceptable for the same people to see her wearing the same dress again soon afterwards, to the same extent.

Probably because men's suits and tuxedos tend to all look the same/quite similar anyway lol...
Doesn't it make more sense for women to rent dresses for a night rather than buy them though? Or do many women already do this?

Well I know celebrities rent jewellery for events like the Oscars.
I'm not sure if people can rent dresses, it certainly isn't widespread,
most girls just share outfits with their friends but all my friends are boys, so none of their dresses fit me
