Woman are socialised to believe that most of their worth lies in their physical appearance, so they spend more money on their appearance.
Quite obviously this is the reason. I'm sure if I was the only woman left alive I wouldn't bother changing my clothes other than for hygiene. This is testament to the fact that I only get out of my pyjamas if I have to go outside or to work or I expect company :/

So? care to do the same thing with video game or electronic spending? Men will spend more on that. Different genders have different spending preferences. Fact O' life.

can someone attempt to explain why?

New clothes are pretty plus, especially in my case my weight fluctuates a fair and I know a few girls who are the same, so for example in the summer a size 12 in a fitted pair of jeans/ trousers would fit perfectly fine but in the winter my weight goes up (due to science and the body storing fat).

For men it's not that big a issue, unless you wear skinny jeans, as most male casual clothing is loosely fitted but females prefer fitted clothing and we are also unconsciously dressing that way to find a partner

Probably because men's suits and tuxedos tend to all look the same/quite similar anyway lol...
Doesn't it make more sense for women to rent dresses for a night rather than buy them though? Or do many women already do this?
Some of my brothers friend from his university used to rent dresses for their balls but then again some of the dresses can be re-worn for clubbing nights out or family occasions as long as there's at least a 2 month gap between to avoid being caught in the same outfit too many times xD

When I get a better job, this will be myth busted.

On a serious note however, I suppose men spend more on their hobbies, and women tend to spend less on their hobbies, meaning more to spend on other areas.

To be fair, the average bra is what, £15-20? For an unavoidable female clothing expense it's a heck of a lot of money :p:

I think the cheapest bra I've got is £12 from mark's cos no where else does them in my size, it's annoying being a 34E at times -.-

Does the study also show that women's clothes cost less than 3 times as much as men's clothes?

    - Clothes can do a lot for a woman, and men are visual. Women get clothes and make-up to appear attractive to the opposite sex whereas men spend their money on things which signalizes status to appear attractive to women (cars, gadgets..). .
Nowi know why james bond gets so many women

So many women put on weight, throw away the clothes they can't get into, buy new clothes, go on a diet, lose weight, throw away the clothes that are now to big for them, and have to buy new clothes again in the same size as the perfectly good clothes they threw away 6 months ago.

    FFS.
