does it really matter? I'd imagine most gay men believe they have lost their virginity when they have anal sex for the first time

I suppose for men it would generally be considered to be when they first take part in anal sex.

For women, I'm not sure exactly. Vulva to vulva contact?
i would have thought something like this, essentially sexual contact minus stuff like oral etc etc

I was always under the impression that by definition, a virgin was someone who had not yet been penetrated by genetalia.

Therefore I assumed gay men lost it at anal, but remained unsure about lesbian women.

Maybe it should be redefined to "something a socially inept person could never achieve"? I'm not even joking, that definition would actually cover it. Kissing- even the most socially inept person could have some girl drunkly kiss them for lols, But when you are going into oral or anal or clitoral rubbing or whatever then that's stuff only cool people ever achieve.

Virginity is a pointless, made up, meaningless concept, which really rather renders your question equally pointless and arbitrary.

Decide for yourself upon an arbitrary point at which the arbitrary concept is arbitrarily achieved. It doesn't mean anything to anyone.

    IT IS
So the difficult issue of coming out the closet for a homosexual, possible discrimination in the work place and the issue of gay marriage you are saying DON'T point towards inequality for homosexuals?? Think about the place of women in society; the suffragette movement began around a century ago, yet women are still struggling for things such as equal recognition to men. Same goes for ethnic minority groups. Negative perceptions STILL exist which means acceptance hasn't become as widespread as people think it has.

My friend once told me that homosexuals lose their virginity when there's fluid exchange. Don't know how true that is though.

So the difficult issue of coming out the closet for a homosexual,
That is a personal confidence issue. I fail to see how that is anyone but the individuals problem
    (Original post by nickth)
possible discrimination in the work place
Granted, but there are strong laws against this. So it is very easy for someone to go to an employment tribunal if such a matter arrised.

and the issue of gay marriage you are saying DON'T point towards inequality for homosexuals??
Gay marriage is a non issue. The goverment did not put it in their manifesto, or in queens speach. They are doing this to distract people from the real issue which is the economy.

Also civil partnerships dont deny homosexuals any rights currently.

And the definition of marriage means that it is impossible for homosexuals to be married.

Additionally, the number of people that is benifeted by this, is dwarfed by the number of people in the religious cumminity is pisses off.

Further to that, the only reason people support this move in such vast numbers, is becuase of the ideological subversion that has taken place in our scoiety by marxists. And through some liberal "look how progressive I am" agenda.

The feminist movement is completely to blame for the breakdown of the family and the rise in numbers of single mothers. However women and men both face these problems. The ball rolls in both directions.

Trying to control the way people think is a very dangerous thing to do. Its this kind of authoriatian thinking that leads to civil unrest.

Technically, they never do, as virginity is classy as nit having vaginal sex. But I'd say the first time they have anal counts.

    You have to be kidding:facepalm:
The definition of marriage is between a man and a women. It's just a legal document, that's it, that's all it will ever be.

Lool I'm guessing your a socialist, yes your so right, big government is the best way we don't want capitalism, as that means social mobility. Name one legal right that a male has over a female, I can name loads that females have over males. Especially in marriage, abortion, and child laws.

Racism is for idiots, its everywhere, people have opinions its this magical thing called free will, I'm guessing that you don't like that people think for themselves, I don't agree with racism, neither do I agree with sexism, but it goes both ways, against men and women black gay straight white. People have opinions, I guess that's part of being human.

I always thought a virgin was someone that had never had sex.

Therefore someone loses their virginity when they have sex for the first time.

Oral/ana//penetrative sex is still sex, therefore when this occurs for the first time, a person can be said to have lost their virginity.

Surely that's all there is to it?

You're right, that is currently how the law defines it. Since it's just a legal document, presumably you have no problem with the government changing the definition. After all, if it's just a legal concept, the government can legitimately change the definition.

I don't think most people would consider oral sex to count as losing your virginity, at least for straight couples.

Do you know what go protest and take it then, I couldn't care less, it's there just so guys can get screwed in court through Alimony and child support laws. I have absolutely nothing against gay rights, same as I have nothing against lesbians or t.s either.

You could just as easily say that virginity only exists for heterosexual women, since they're the only ones who actually undergo any physical change the first time they have sex, and even that's not reliable, as it's not uncommon for girls to break their hymen in horse riding or some other activity before they've had sex.

There's no physical or biological thing called 'virginity'. It's a concept we've invented. We could just as easily have a term for someone who hasn't broken a bone or smoked a cigarette yet.
Well, actually it is very rare for horseriding to cause someone to lose their virginity.

Then what are you even arguing about, there is absolutely no law in existence in the 21st century that can oppress homosexuals. Marriage is not even a good idea for heterosexual males, considering that about 60% end in divorce, and as you seem to know so much about law then you know what usually happens to men in A divorce court case, he gets screwed over. 21st century marriage is just a joke now. Why would you want to get married? So that if it ends up in divorce the person working full time gets his ass handed to him?
