So I left college 3 years ago and gained a national diploma. I now want to go onto university preferably Manchester met and do software engineering/computer science but however I have an E grade at Maths level gcse. I have C for English it is just Maths. I am worried I wo t be accepted because of this. Should I contact admissions to make sure? Or if anyone else can shed some light on as to if it's possible still.

    Thankyou!!

Contact them as they may either make an exception or will accept alternative qualifications.

I contacted them and they said unfortunatley they do need the GCSE or something equivalent...such as application of number level 2. which I am now also enquiring about that to do before this september which then I will have no problem but I need to hope I am lucky that there are some places available and I can do it so fingers crossed!!! because I now know that after being otu of education for 3 years straight I think I can handle maths pretty easily now I've used it alot in the real world.

If you contact your local Learn Direct centre they should run courses in adult numeracy, which will get you a qualification equivalent to GCSE. It's possible to just take the exam if you're confident you can pass, but it might be advisable to have a few lessons just in case. The best bit is it's usually free.

I will wait and see if I can get onto this Application of number course. If so. I will pass (hopefully) haha and then I could give the actual GCSE exam a shot with a few lessons before hand like you said. That way I have nothing to lose
    thanks pal!
