    Yes you should give it a go, because if it were the other way round, trust me, your best friend would put herself first, so you should do the same. (speaking from experience here)

    I think this hinges in part on the fact that nothing ever happened between you and her friend. If this discussion was about whether people would date someone their friend had previously dated a year ago but was now 'over' I think a lot more people would urge caution. But a crush that wasn't even reciprocated and they no longer have feelings for? There's no issue there really, surely?

    Ask your best friend but if nothing happened and she really is over him then I don't see a huge problem with it.

    I would as long as she didn't have a bad history with him where he behaved like a jerk to her, and I would do it after talking to her first, more as a sign of respect than a need to ask her permission. But I doubt this would come up. My friends and I are different and find different types of guys appealing.
