best uni/college for art courses

Hi all, just wondering which universities and colleges of art are considered particularly good for courses like fine art and illustration (I find the league tables for art courses slightly confusing:colondollar: ) All advice welcome, especially from art students!

As far as I can tell league tables don't seem to be very reliable at all for art subjects! I've applied for Fine Art this year and as far as I can tell the best courses are at Slade UCL, Ruskin Oxford, Chelsea, St Martins and Goldsmiths.
I think Glasgow, Edinburgh, Camberwell and Wimbledon are also very good.
My tutor told me that the best second choice universities are Kingston, Westminster, Brighton. Hope this helps! Are you applying this year?
Yea, i thought the league tables were quite vague.. I'm doing an art foundation first at a local college so I'm applying next year. Which gives me more time to research different universities but if im honest the idea living/studying in london freaks me out which rules out some of the best art unis

Hello! My name is Eliel and I am UCA representative and also a current student there. I have been doing photography for 2 years now.

I read you were asking about the Fine Art and Illustration courses and though you would be interested in our programs based in Farnham. I don't know if you have heard of UCA before. The University for the Creative Arts is one of the leading providers of specialist art and design education in Europe. We are a diverse community of about 7,000 students from more than 70 countries and are based around five campuses in Surrey and Kent.

The Fine Art course at Farnham is great. There is also another one based in UCA Canterbury. Both of them have a great balance between theoretical and practical units which helps you develop critically and creatively in your own area of specialism. Another really good thing are the facilities and the studio spaces. There is lots to space to work in and also some incredible specialist equipment.

The BA (Hons) in Illustration at UCA Farnham is great. The course has a great balance between theoretical and practical discourse preparing you for industry standard. The course has great creative industry links range from education, publishing, advertising, broadcasting, internet and web content, the museum and gallery sector and cinematic contexts.

If you are interested in finding out a bit more about the course please visit the following links:

UCA Farnham BA (Hons) Fine Art - http://www.ucreative.ac.uk/ba-fine-art-farnham
UCA Farnham BA (Hons) Illustration - http://www.ucreative.ac.uk/ba-illustration/industry

As I said before, I am a current student at UCA and have been for almost 2 years now so if you have any questions rewarding student life or anything else please don't hesitate to ask.

Hope you find this useful.

Eliel.

Just chucking my two cents worth in... I know Loughborough have a really good foundation course, and I know someone that did Fine Art there and loved it. I've heard some good things about Derby and Kingston. Brighton's pretty good too. And Edinburgh College of Art and Glasgow School of Art too... I know nothing about the London ones

Hi this is Marianne, I work as part of the UCA Student Recruitment team.

Great to hear that you have an interview scheduled!

Interviews at UCA form part of our Applicant Days, where you will also get a chance to meet current students and tour the campus. We would have asked you to provide us with a digital portfolio already which gives us an flavour of your work and style so you should be looking to expand on this during your interview. Applicants normally bring along 20 pieces of work with them and it's great if we can see how you work has progressed, so for example from your initial concepts through to the finished pieces. The interview is a great opportunity to talk more about your inspiration and even any exhibitions, talks etc that you may have been along to!

I hope that this has helped, best of luck with your interview!
