For new year I went to a party at guy's flat, he has previously shown some interest in me. Through out the night he kept flirting with me and was also getting touchy feely, which I was quite enjoying. Unfortunately I had 3 of his other friends showing an interest in me, one of them was really trying to get up close and personal, and it was so obvious to everyone. Two of the guys added me to Facebook and I also swapped numbers with one. I didn't really want to keep in touch with the third one, because he was so pompous and arrogant, so I refused to give him my number or add him to Facebook.

I haven't heard from the guy I like since my last text on Tuesday, I'm not sure what out him off. Everyone kept saying how lovely I looked all night, including him.

Could he have just been after a shag?

Depends how you played it. Everyone likes to know that they person they like is desirable because it's almost a validation that they're a good choice (they have done studies on this) - but by the same token humans (apparently) are turned off if said choice is equally liberal with their affections back.

Basically, friends giving you attention will be a good thing, unless you paid them lots of attention back and didn't distinguish the one you liked as anything special. People (and particularly guys) like to know that they are in competition, but that the odds are tipped in their favour, otherwise why compete? If you took other people's numbers and flirted all night with all of his mates then he probably lost interest because you seemed like a bit of an attention seeker, I reckon...

And the studies I read somewhere on the BBC website a few years back, but are probably still in there - maybe in the psychology section?

Yeah, I don't think he made it clear to his friends that he's was interested me. I was meeting all of them for the first time. Most of them were his long time boarding school buddies.

But I was kind of disappointed that he hadn't told them that we were kind of seeing each other. Yet, when I came in his two girl cousins were asking if I was his girlfriend and telling me that they like the look of me. I told them that we are just mates, because we hadn't talked about becoming an item.
