So you don't think having belief in something can changes someones behaviors and outlook on life?

Because there are a lot of people in the world who will disagree with you
I think that the notion that not masturbating somehow instills greater self-belief in you and thereby improves your conversational skills or whatever else is absurd.

How is it absurd though? That is what the whole idea of placebos are built upon. Whether or not the action does anything doesn't matter. Believing that it does have an affect however, does matter. (ok yes, there are limits to this Believing a medicine will make you immortal etc wont make it so. But there have been plenty of studies done that have shown that people who 'believed' they took a painkiller felt less pain, even if it was just a sweet etc).

I'm not saying that not-masturbating causes you to undertake some great inner-bodily change (ignoring porn addiction-brain activity links). But if someone believes that not-masturbating will make them more confident, then by not-masturbating they'll see their confidence grow, even though not-masturbating is not itself physically or mentally changing them.

Two components to no fap in this context:
    Abstaining implying higher self-confidence
Self-confidence implying better conversational skills/less anxiety

I assume you are against the first. Well the mere knowledge that you are in control of what you want or don't want to do regardless of what your brain tries to make you do is enough to increase self-confidence... and I don't see how you can say it doesn't. It's easy to dismiss a theory without breaking it down.

My brain does not 'make' me masturbate any more than yours is now restraining you from masturbation. I think that undermines your 'theory'

    Do you masturbate? Why?

Your brain doesn't need to make you want to masturbate 24/7 for it to ever make you want to masturbate... -_-

Does anyone here think that masturbation is a natural thing, or sort of a man made creation? On the one hand, masturbation has gone on for hundreds of years, as shown in history. But to me it's just your way of trying to recreate sexual pleasure . If you had never heard of masturbation, do you think you would still instinctively do it? I personally don't think so. Thoughts?

The point is that the brain that organises to masturbate on a saturday night is the same brain that is now organising you to create methods to not masturbate, so I don't see how you can use it as a defence for fapstinence.

    1. I am not trolling, I am disagreeing and challenging the premise of this challenge. The difference between disruption and discussion. Please learn it.

    2. You have 5 warning points and 4 red gems. You are hardly someone to police trolls, of which I am not one anyhow.

Im not even going to bother going into a pointless argument with a cynical clown such as yourself. If you dont want to take part in the challenge, stop trying to put people off who do. The likes of you can't stand 2 weeks without abstaining from tapping never mind a month.

Plus you don't need to tell me i have 5 warning points, it doesn't concern you!

If I am a troll for disagreeing with you, what does that make someone like you who is abusive with no good cause?

I've been trying to avoid this discussion but ah well :P

I think the issue a lot of people are having with you talking so much is that you're doing this on this thread, and discussing and pointing out your views about how crap this challenge is scientifically. A) this thread is for people actually doing the challenge, and B) even if you are right, and this is all just a placebo, by posting on here you are ruining the effect of the placebo and therefore ruining any positive effects that could be occurring due to it. By all means, display your opinions, but would you mind doing it on an alternative thread? That would be preferable to the many, many people taking part in this challenge, and you can still debate the finer scientific points with those others who are interested in scientific debating, rather then dragging everyone doing the challenge into the debate.

News just in: the brain is made up of different parts!

But srs, the part of the brain that tries to hold off on masturbation urges is different to the part that causes them
