    So let me get this straight;

For the No Fap movement, masturbation is hateful and bad, but sex is good.

This is scientifically fallacious, your knob doesn't know the difference between a pussy and a grape fruit. What is the empirical difference between the two?

not hateful and bad???????????? it's just a self control challenge at the end of the day.

Thats presuming all of us are sexually active?
I far from presuming that, if you all feel the need to cut down on you masturbation time than you surely aren't - that - sexually active.

I'm just saying, instead of punishing yourself, how about getting out, talk to girls, get a girlfriend. I know it sound cheesy and whatnot but seriously, what have you got to lose?

That's precisely it. My taking part in this self control challenge, we are encouraged to do exactly that
So you're target is not to abstain for a year but to minimise your - addiction - reliance.... :holmes:

Nonsense. I hang out with my boyfriend two or three nights a week, and we **** most nights we hang out. I still enjoy touching my willy once or twice a week, I don't see why this is bad?

There's nothing objective or empirical about "If you're having sex you shouldn't ****"

In what sense are they mutually exclusive?

In Chinese culture, they assert that masturbation, or cumming at all, depletes one's Qi (life force). Hence Karma Sutra-ish techniques.

But there is no scientific basis for such a belief. And it seems fairly clear to me, having done some research about the origins of "No Fap", that it was started by fundamentalist Christians who believe masturbation of any sort is bad because it contravenes the "procreative" purpose of sex.

I'm curious, does "No Fap" disapprove of gay bumsex? If not, there is a logical inconsistency between its adherents and its founders

I'm really curious about this, honestly... how does refraining from masturbation demonstrate a "self-control challenge"? It seems empirically identical to refraining from sex as a self-control challenge.

But "No Fap" appears to ascribe some moral distinction between sex and masturbation?

Nope. It's only things that you do to yourself. It's all perfectly clear.

I wouldn't call it addiction and it hadn't even crossed my mind until i saw this challenge, but its to prove self control. It's all in the 1st post!
Prove what to whom? Self controll? It's an urge, this thread is not about self conyroll, it's hidden agenda can be perceived as demonizing masturbation. Fapping once a day is okay, twice a day is okay. Not fapping ever is okay, as long as you are sexually active. There are no health benefits to abstaining from masturbation.

Especially if you aren't sexually active, you are increasing your chances of testicular cancer!!

I give up, MostUncivillised, you'll have to speak to the OP because i just saw the challenge and thought i'd go for it
Fair dos. If you feel it's beneficial to you, I say more power to you.

It's just that I have sincere qualms about the ideological origins of this movement; it reminds me of the "chastity" movement in the US, underwritten and funded by Christian fundamentalists.

They sought to create a kind of secular cover for their agenda (exhorting young men to abstain from sex before marriage, claiming that it would make sex better.. as No Fap seems to), when in fact there was an underlying religious motive, one which was highly regressive and homophobic in character.

Not saying No Fap is regressive and homophobic, but does seem to share many characteristics with the abstinence/chastity "movement"

    This.

If No Fap asserts no health benefits, then I say fine. But if it claims that it is somehow healthy and salutary, then it is engaging in deceipt.

There is no demonstrable physiological or psychological benefit from abstaining from masturbation. My fear is that it is a fundamentalist Christian deception designed to lure young men by ascribing their lack of sexual success to what this movement's founders see as sin... in fact, there are multiple and complex reasons why a young man might not be enjoying the kinds of sexual relations he'd hoped with the opposite/same sex.

Far more complex than "If you masturbate, you won't have sex... and if you do have sex, it will be crap"

your forgot porn - which is the main problem for a lot of people
Thing is... it's not. True porn addicts constitute a tiny proportion of the population, on the same order as true sex addicts and heroin addicts (1% or less).

It is widely accepted in therapeutic professions that recourse to pornography, even several times a week, is not problematic unless and until it starts to negatively affect a man or woman's work life (they skive off work to jerk), or relationship (they can't get it up when in bed with a woman without a laptop nearby displaying porn).

There are two "factions" who excessively obsess over porn, radical feminists and radical christians. Fact is, the internet *is* changing human sexuality, viewing pornography is sexually normal.

The vast majority of normal people accept and incorporate this into their sex life with their partner. It's only a deceiptful few who claim that the reason a boy can't find a hot, willing sex partner is because he plays with his willy a few times a week and watches porn while he does it
