I'm really curious about this, honestly... how does refraining from masturbation demonstrate a "self-control challenge"? It seems empirically identical to refraining from sex as a self-control challenge.

But "No Fap" appears to ascribe some moral distinction between sex and masturbation?
    > parts of brain make you want to fap
    > you don't
    > self-control win

I haven't read the rest of your posts but I'm guessing you've made the issue much more complex than it needs to be.

And porn addiction is surprisingly common since it's so readily available, socially acceptable and used frequently. Addicts don't need to be falling all over the place trying to get their fix to be addicts. Unfortunately we won't be getting empirical evidence anytime soon, all I have is anecdotal and it's not even in large quantity.

Fair dos. If you feel it's beneficial to you, I say more power to you.

It's just that I have sincere qualms about the ideological origins of this movement; it reminds me of the "chastity" movement in the US, underwritten and funded by Christian fundamentalists.

They sought to create a kind of secular cover for their agenda (exhorting young men to abstain from sex before marriage, claiming that it would make sex better.. as No Fap seems to), when in fact there was an underlying religious motive, one which was highly regressive and homophobic in character.

Not saying No Fap is regressive and homophobic, but does seem to share many characteristics with the abstinence/chastity "movement"
Lol to you coating this to a mass movement im sure TSR contains less than 2000 ppl who are active regularly probably even less than that figure

Day #26. Have been feeling more confident than usual for a little while now. I almost want to go out places specifically to talk to new people.

Want to find an excuse to talk to the girl who lives in the flat opposite me - only way I'm realistically gonna get a chance to do that though is if I knock on her door. Any ideas?

Play the good guy card by pretending to be fundraising for African orphans.

    I'm a terrible person.

That's really good man. I feel the same, I just wanna get out and meet new people, but I don't really get much of a chance. I'd love to hear a progress report if you find a way to go meet your neighbour! You could maybe go over and say that you wanted to meet your neighbours because you don't really know anyone on the street? Ask if she wants to go for a drink later possibly.

Or, have a dinner party with her and a couple other people, under the premise of wanting to get to know your neighbours. It's more effort, but it wouldn't be 1 on 1 so she'd feel less threatened and you'll give a good account of yourself by cooking a meal, girls like that.

Cheers. Yeah, I keep a diary, which essentially holds the content of a progress report anyway. We've chatted once or twice before, but only on those rare occasions where we happen to be leaving/arriving at the same time. I did also consider that dinner party idea a little while ago, which I'll do when I have enough seating for it (in maybe a month or two).

I was thinking I'd ask her to go for a coffee (we live right next to a costa). I don't mind so much if she rejects it, I just don't want her reason to reject it to be a stupid one like that it was too out-of-the-blue or something. Then again, I am half-tempted just to do something ballsy for the sake of it, like knock on her door, then just say outright that I felt like finding out more about her. But either way, doing something is better than doing nothing.

Haha, I know that feeling where you're just considering doing something ballsy. It does sound like a decent idea as well, what you've wrote there.. If you do it with confidence it'll work well. If you stumble over there and be a bit awkward and kinda 'hey, I was maybe thinking.. shucks, maybe we should get to know each other' then it's not gonna go down well.

I think a great approach would be to go over and say that you bump into each other now and then but only exchange a few words before getting on with your own business, and it'd be nice to actually get to know her.

Another option you could try is to just knock on the door and say "Hey, grab your coat, we're going for coffee". Girls like being told what to do rather than asking them to decide whether or not they wanna go for coffee. That could work, but I've not tried it myself so proceed with caution.

Hahahaha dude that'd rock. You can't fake balls like that. Even if she was busy, she'd want to reschedule it. I'm gonna do it.
