The not lying thing is a really good idea. I might give it a go, but I won't tell anyone so they don't take advantage of me lol.
Yeah, it can be quite challenging at times, since it's very easy to say a mistruth without thinking about it, and only realise after it's too late. I've told it to a few people but not many. I think it doesn't really matter who knows, unless they will try to entrap you by asking a question for which you have no reason to decline answering unless you would be admitting to something embarrassing.

But then maybe you should either abandon that embarrassing thing or become comfortable with it as a part of your identity.

Hey guys, does anyone know if there is a UK 'wing' of the No Fap movement? Or a hub that's more local than Reddit? I'm researching for an article on this.

My past 318 days says otherwise. Haven't had any action the whole time.
I thought the NoFap proponents claimed that it results in the opposite, that men and women will find you irresistible and your sexual power will be increased many fold.

Considering that eventually some microorganism will be consuming your dead semen I would argue that it is. It's certainly much better for your body to recycle the nutrients, which I think is what happens once the testes get full.

What an unusual creature you are (I mean that endearingly). I can only feel sorry for your current/future boyfriend/girlfriend who, seemingly, will only be able to enjoy your non-sexual charms.

Which will be highly developed beyond measure and only inferior to true asexuals, eunuchs, and people who started this before me.

Chances are I will fail though...also, I'm likely to have sex with a partner...but maybe not...the benefits of abstinance are huge. I recommend it.

I identified one of my stimulae. I was reading a book and a certain subject (not sex) came up and I got a string of sexual thoughts. The subject that came up isn't relevant, but I recommend that everyone who does this tries hard to identify what caused the string of sexual thoughts and most importantly deal with it without maturbating. Think on why these thoughts come on the subject and what you can do to divert this "thought energy".

Sorry to sound cult-like, but it's hard not to sometimes.

Yes, the book is probably entitled - Pseudoscience 101. And to say Masturbation is dirty is completely and utterly stupid, and it is probably a Religious Book, or one of those Neo-Buddhism books.

This is exactly why I hate Religions/False-Science. You take something very basic, and turn into something mystic.

    1. People are usually tired from Excessive Masturbation
    2. People would probably want to have Sex with other individuals

Solution: No Fap aims to kill two birds with one stone. You kill your excessive masturbation and because you can't have sex essentially with yourself; you have no choice but to interact with people.

Any claims that go beyond that are Un-Reviewed Pseudo-Scientific Claims which we probably won't understand for another 50-70 years, as Fapping isn't an urgent Research Area compared to Particle Physics, Nanotechnology etc etc. This is the reason as to why the Your-Brain on Porn guy has received criticism.

Every time I hear an opinion like this, it makes me want to be an Atheist like Dawkins. Dumb opinions literally should be ridiculed.

It's painfully evident that you have absolutely no idea what the Your Brain On Porn guy said.

But in general, of course fapping should be urgent research. It's not researched that well yet and directly affects millions more people than particle physics does.

Thanks for taking the time to respond - I didn't say whether or not it should be urgent research. I am saying Probabilistically whether it will be deemed urgent research and the answer is an astounding no.

If you look to the History of Medicine, the plastic surgery we see today is mainly a Product of the Research done into Prosthetic Limbs in the first world war etc. Research and understanding of how Sex effects our Brain will only be a product of other developments in Neuroscience.

And well, you don't know what I have and haven't read. That's like you saying Einstein has been critisized for some of his theories and me responding - you haven't read any works of Einstein.

I simply stated he has been refudiated; to argue that I haven't read what he's done on the basis of that is illogical and renders your statement redundant. But thanks anyway.

Better is right. Gary Wilson isn't even a psychologist, he's like a PE teacher or something.

And his pseudo-scientific claptrap has been repeatedly debunked by reputable neuroscientists and psychologists.

Well it turns out I was right and I do know what you have and haven't read. He has not been refuted properly. Any moderately critical thinker would see that he has been criticized, not refuted. And also my basis for saying you haven't read anything about it was on the premise that your post implied you had no idea what Your Brain On Porn was about (hint: it's in the name, and it's not fapping!). Good job on being a crowd following sheep and making your own decisions with the evidence presented by the way.

I don't know about his credentials.

And no it hasn't. It has been repeatedly debunked by sexologists. I have personally read some of the stuff that supposedly debunks it and it's ridiculous how it's attempted. I was reading something the other day that said it's the addicts fault that he's an addict, not porn's - firstly that accepts porn addiction exists (oops...) and secondly that doesn't disprove anything.
Find me one neuroscientist who has a proper explanation debunking it. That side of the community tends to support his theories. The sexologists are against it because porn is good, porn is liberal and therefore porn can't possibly be unhealthy (because that chain of logic makes sense) even though we have no idea because no-one bothered to test it before releasing it on the masses.

You are both horribly under-read on this issue and it's not even worth responding to either of you beyond this until you go and read up more. It doesn't matter if you don't have the same opinion as me. But go and read up more.

So presumably you're asserting that he's right because it's what you want to hear?

From a lecturer in the psychology department at the University of British Columbia. More impressive than a PE teacher at a community college.

Straw man. I've neither heard of, nor care for, that argument. Making up **** arguments against your own position is not particularly impressive.

Find me one neuroscientist who has a proper explanation debunking it. That side of the community tends to support his theories.

More straw man arguments. You sound like someone entirely unfamiliar with the arguments against your own position.

By which you mean to say, "I'm an incredibly immature individual, and I feel backed into a corner so I'm going to go ad hominem and throw my toys out of the pram". It looks like you're in fact the one living in extraordinary ignorance of the subject.

Are you 15 years old or something? If personal insults are your first response, then it doesn't presage great things for the quality of your intellect. You really should learn to deal with frustration, it's something most people learn as they mature into adulthood.

Thanks for responding to this I thought the same thing. But I guess, I commit the same crimes as well so I can't talk. When I'm passionate about something I do the same thing.

I really wasn't trying to start an full-fledged argument I guess it just applies to all aspects of life - as someone who followed a bunch of Pseudo-Science based diet protocols, the only thing I learnt was there is no quick fix in life, and you cannot fool the Laws of nature to get results you want.

I just don't like it when people get fooled as it is a vicious cycle ultimately leading to more pain than good. Why go through so much pain when you could make a few small changes and enjoy life so much.

Forget arguing about it, life is way too short, I was just emotional earlier too about what was said.....

We're all probably doing it to be better in real life anyway my friends!

Good post, and a point well made. My view is that Gary Wilson and Marnia Robinson's positions are completely pseudoscientific. The guy doesn't even have an undergraduate degree, he was a nursing student. That's the extent of his qualifications.

It's also important to note that GW and MR have a particular barrow to push; MR believes that orgasms are bad and so pushing the anti-porn bandwagon along is, she believes, her best way to attack the pernicious tendency of human beings to get themselves and other people off.

Finally, there is a highly homophobic streak in what GW promotes. Despite knowing that sexuality is fairly immutable, they are constantly pushing the line that if a guy starts liking gay porn, he was probably just attracted to it because it's "deviant". A very regressive and homophobic view if there was one, and totally at odds with what we know about human sexuality. It's also an extremely irresponsible ideology to promote considering how vulnerable young people are when it comes to sexuality issues. This is one step away from the reparative therapy nonsense we see from extremist Christians
