I just want to remind everyone of this; DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO JUSTIFY FAPPING NOW. Don't say, oh it's been a week maybe I should start properly from Monday. Don't put yourself in that mindset where you feel like it'd be a good idea to fap right now and start this over again later. That's a loop that can never be broken. Remember that cravings only last for 180 seconds so if you feel like you're about to relapse, go outside quickly and take a 5 minute walk. Call your friend for 5 minutes. Do anything to keep yourself busy for the next 5 minutes until it isn't the strongest thought in your mind anymore and you can think rationally again. Remember all the regret and shame that follows after you masturbate? Make sure you never feel like that again.

This applies to every milestone or "special" time; a week, a month, your birthday, a particularly bad day, a "celebration" moment, like after you finish your exam one day. If you fap and justify it by saying I'll start all over again, you will NEVER get out of this cycle. You might as well just give up and fap everyday if that's the mindset you have because you won't succeed.

And most importantly, do NOT get complacent. You might think you've gone a while without fapping/porn now and watching a little bit, or stroking your **** for a while won't lead to anything but trust me these are triggers that will eventually lead you to watch that "just a bit more" and stroke it "just a bit faster" until you break nofap.

Edit: Put this on the first page OP. Lots of people break the no fap by following that logic and I think we should prepare them better for it.

There's a long thought process behind it, and some reflection from the life experience I've had since my early teens has certainly contributed towards my stance regarding pleasuring myself.

I won't bore everyone with the details, but what I will say is I have given up other simple pleasures in life because they are simply unnecessary beyond receiving said pleasure, and I felt like masturbation was the next thing with such criteria to remove from my life.

After I discovered the studies to show that abstaining doesn't lead to prostate cancer, and that I discovered an entire community that doesn't suffer from physiological and psychological defects as a result of abstaining, the decision was easy.

Not to mention out of the 10+ years I've been sexually active, my masturbation:sex ratio is something I find utter pathetic (let's just say I've only had two sexual partners in short relationships), and I'm simply done jerking off lest I end up doing it for the rest of my life.

I mean, I didn't have sex for 6 years until my last relationship, and I accepted it because I always had my right hand to rely on when I got home. That's not a natural approach to life. Now I no longer have masturbation to fall back on, the rules have changed.
Are there any psychological/health benefits for doing this?

Mind clarifying how fapstinence causes a weaker immune system? Got any evidence to back that up?

And besides, I take cold showers anyway which massively boost your immune system, so mine is better than all those who have hot showers.

These sources aren't exactly reliable. Men's Health is complete faux-science, let me quote what I found:

"Men are doing themselves a favor with regular ejaculation," Brame says. "It cleans out the plumbing."

The researchers say sexual intercourse doesn't provide the same benefit because it puts you at risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection.
LOL. Are they seriously saying that masturbation is better than sex because you can't catch STIs? If there's no risk of an STI as your partner is tested and clean, it's no different.

Here's something else for you: http://www.webmd.com/prostate-cancer...te-cancer-risk

Everyone is aware of the 2003 study by the Australians saying that masturbation reduces the risk of prostate cancer. How about reading this more recent study's findings. Obviously the former study is a lot more popular so you don't hear about this one so much.

Now I've read up on why it boosts your immune system. It's because of a small release of cortisol. According to about.com, small increases of cortisol have some positive effects:

    • A quick burst of energy for survival reasons
    • Heightened memory functions
    • A burst of increased immunity
    • Lower sensitivity to pain
    • Helps maintain homeostasis in the body

Notice how temporary the effect is? The results just get exaggerated so scientists can tell you it's healthy and masturbation is good for you, obviously because that's what everyone wants to hear.

It also says however, that higher and more prolonged levels of cortisol in the bloodstream (like those associated with chronic stress) have been shown to have negative effects, such as:

    • Impaired cognitive performance
    • Suppressed thyroid function
    • Blood sugar imbalances such as hyperglycemia
    • Decreased bone density
    • Decrease in muscle tissue
    • Higher blood pressure
    • Lowered immunity and inflammatory responses in the body, slowed wound healing, and other health consequences
    • Increased abdominal fat, which is associated with a greater amount of health problems than fat deposited in other areas of the body. Some of the health problems associated with increased stomach fat are heart attacks, strokes, the development of metabolic syndrome, higher levels of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and lower levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL), which can lead to other health problems!

If you masturbate in the mornings, when cortisol is typically higher, it could even have a negative effect. Anyone who goes to the gym trying to get big will know that cortisol isn't good for building muscle. Avoid fapping for bigger gains.

Unfortunately, beyond dopamine receptors and testosterone levels all I can give you is anecdotal evidence.

Since I removed masturbation from my life it has changed for the better, and beyond anything I anticipated. I wouldn't go back to jerking off if I was paid for it.

If you enjoy a fantastic sex life, combined with regular masturbation then good for you. But ask yourself this; if you gave it up, for even a month do you really think it would be detrimental? Do you really need to masturbate? Think about that for a minute or two.

Everyone talks about the positive benefits of masturbation, that it's healthy, relieves stress etc. Just because masturbation is healthy, how does that automatically mean non-masturbation is unhealthy? People should know better than to engage in black and white thinking.

Nope. Typically, when tugging more, you are actually more susceptible to a weaker immune system.

Temporary yes, hence why regular bursts are beneficial.

Why would scientists tell people what they want to hear? What benefit would there be??

It also says however, that higher and more prolonged levels of cortisol in the bloodstream (like those associated with chronic stress) have been shown to have negative effects, such as:
Prolonged levels, yes. But this regular masturbation induced short-burst dynamic doesn't result in prolonged high levels of cortisol, since levels fall again before being topped up the next time.

The supposed immune boost conferred by masturbation is due to intermittently high levels of cortisol.

Here's a post that I made earlier in the thread of the enemy (namely, the notorious Fap Away Clan) which you can take on board, if you so wish:

Indeed, an attribute of a better, more advanced human is controlling and ruling over his primal urges and tendencies and not letting them rule him or letting them dictate what he does. Control over one's sexual urges and sexual instinct is one of the most powerful types of control there is. It is the highest measure of self-control and will-power.

To simply brush it away and succumb to your primal urges when they show up is simply lazy and passive. Now, we great men over in that great thread are not saying that we shall go forever without - we are merely saying that we will go for a year without. It is an experience of another mode of existence - it is a bold step into an unknown. It is the rewiring of the brain and its reward systems. It is the overpowering of the reptilian brain by the neocortex. It is the bastion of greatness. :proud:
