    Another key to beating the urge, is that when you get excited, you should try hard to not associate it with tugging. Really, this only helps if you intend to get a partner/FB etc. When many get excited, they don't merely tug; rather they call their partner/FB etc and do the real thing etc. Of course, this paragraph may not help if you're not going down that route, but still try to dissociate excitement from self-pleasure, if only for the duration of this Challenge (so you can win of course ).

    It was just a random urge I was sitting and reading stuff on wikipedia and then all of a sudden I was having a mental battle with myself :lol:

    Sleep

    It seems that for many, including myself, if one doesn't get enough sleep or good enough restful sleep, the benefits of the Challenge aren't seen so much. Empirical evidence shows us that if sleep quality is poor, or if one doesn't get enough sleep, then mental abilities are not able to be used to their full capacity. So, those benefits mentioned in the OP and by others may have less of a chance of being seen/experienced.

    This also leads us to consider 'self-control'. If your brain isn't fully rested and you had little/bad sleep, your self-control/willpower suffers; not in the least because of decreased energy. Therefore, if you're pretty tired as a result or just aren't fully alert, that is arguably a time when urges come with a vengeance and you may not be strong enough (or, indeed, not care enough) to resist them. Just a thought... :holmes:

    Personally, I can tell you that my mania (I find it positive) and high motivation (both result from sustained fapstinence to porn) see a great drop when I haven't slept much/sleep quality has been bad. And then this leads me to consider why I'm undertaking fapstinence if I'm not seeing any benefits.. and then ultimately, I tug to porn because I no longer think fapstinence is worth it. But such tiredness/lack of sleep and the resulting decrease in perceived benefits should only be temporary. So, in short, the message to take from this is that you shouldn't fall when these temporary times of low states show up and you'd rather fap.

    Sleep well, exercise more, enforce a more positive mindset and keep committed to the movement. When these things are gone, the benefits of this Challenge should be limitless.

    (Really, although this is but a challenge (but arguably a great one :proud:, it's really being used by many as vehicle to improve their lives/grades etc - not to say that tugging's bad or that fapstinence will suddenly result in a great improvement in lifestyle.

    Really, it's much like one suddenly getting up one day and saying that they're going to challenge themselves to stop smoking (arguably harder) and this leads to other goals being set (e.g. studying harder, exercising more etc etc).

    I basically like to think of the Challenge as being a vehicle for improvement. It's one thing to take part in the challenge; but it's another to use it as a tool towards life improvement.)

    Most of the time yes, I'm going to attribute this to my erratic sleeping pattern over the holidays. Next week onwards I have a set pattern so we'll see come then.

    But really, I am actually glad to be the Thread Starter/Leader/co-ordinator etc, because it not only gives a morale boost, but it also gives an extra incentive to succeed the challenge and hold out for the entire year. I've never been so committed in my life...

    This is the end of day 8 for me. I was pretty wiped out when I got home from work and decided to have a 1 hour nap before going to aikido later. At this point I felt the biggest urge I had felt so far (and after dismissing the idea of getting an urge boost on account of it being around the 7th day too..). It was steel and I could feel the hint of pleasure even without doing anything, as if it was calling out to me, and my mind kept imagining what it would feel like to throw away the challenge and give in, even if for just one tug-revolution, but despite feeling the biological urge so compellingly, I didn't feel tempted. I was surprised how free it felt in that moment, because I knew that I would never do it, and so it felt as if it took no effort to resist. I was simply a non-masturbator with a hard-on.

    Roll on day 9.

    This is useful. I've currently not been able to sleep for more than 5 hours the last few days and it has been difficult. I guess it is partly adjusting to the new lifestyle, but also exam stress. Hopefully I have a good night's sleep tonight and not auto wake up at 4:45. Always seems to be the same time and no alarm has been set. Hmm... No minus temperatures tonight so that should help as well.

    I was forgetting so many things today and yesterday. I'd remember a few minutes later or not at all. You'll most probably be able to tell from these posts if they are coherent or not.

    Willpower/motivation does indeed drop. Just got to keep on pushing.

    I work part time in a shop which is filled with hot girls. Some of them are amazing craic', but there's one in particular who I always end up working with, and occasionally flirting a little bit with, she really is great fun. And amazingly hot.

    Tonight I was working, and there was a surprise party for someone else working in the shop in a local pub. So I was working away when she walks up behind me and whispers "You monkey, why aren't you going tonight?" Don't know why she called me that haha.

    Anyway I turned around and she was wearing a dress and was all dressed up. That much sexiness in one person is too much power for someone to handle! lol. In that moment I knew just how hard this challenge is going to be!

    First week is the hardest I guess!
