    Hey there,

I'm currently in year 11 and I'm planning on taking English, History, Maths/Biology and French for A-level.

However I'm not quite sure if I'm good enough for A level french :/

I did the IGCSE and did it a year early because my teacher thought I was really good at french. I ended up with an A- 1% off an A*

In year 11 we've just been studying the AS which I've been finding okay, got a B in the recent mock. But I still don't feel like I'm good enough for it.

So, to everyone taking French for A-level, how do you find the course? Is it really hard? What's the oral like?

Thank you in advance, really appreciate any help

I do A-Level Spanish, which is very similar to french and I am going to be honest,
I was an a/a* student at gcse and was quite confident going into a-level, but believe me it is soooo much different! It's not just vocab, but learning text, verb endings (for 6-7 tenses) and picking up a 'traditional' spanish accent!!!
The oral is nothing like GCSE, you cannot prepare as the oral is based on a topic picked at random when you are sat in front of the examiner.

So yeah, feel free to ask any other questions!

Thank you so much for your reply!

Do you consider it one of your hardest Alevels? As I'm studying the AS in French this year but not doing the exam next year (so I'll effectively study the whole year again next year)

I found the reading and listening okay, but the writing and oral look so difficult :O Do you think the Spanish and languages in general are do-able?

It is definitely do-able, just not easy!
I also study chemistry, biology, english lit, and spanish is my 2nd hardest subject, there's just so much to learn! If you chose to take french, it's not a subject that you can just learn on the side, you HAVE to study daily, revise vocab, watch french tv/listen to french music!

I'm doing it with English lit, History and either Biology/Maths so I guess that will be a massive workload!

Urgh A-levels look so hard and stressful

Haha, I had an actual breakdown last month because I couldn't cope, it's just such a huge shock to the system! It'll be fine though, I have bio and chem exams next week, so yeah, i'm stressed right now!
