I was thinking of doing my dissertaion on Abu Qatada, in particular deportation with assurances.

Do you think this would be good? What would be good to discuss, any advice?

    Many many thanks.

Or to put it another way - your dissertation might be examining a particular aspect of immigration law/counter-terrorism law and the interplay between them and various human rights obligations in both domestic and international law which bind the UK - using Othman (Abu Qatada) v UK as a specific case study to structure it around? So three areas of law, at least, involved. Public international law will come into it too, plenty of case law available and a large amount of academic writing on the various areas and issues. I think there's a lot of mileage in it. I'd read some of the Othman cases, note the issues raised, do some initial research into those areas and begin to draft out a rough proposal. Go for it.
