    When do you apply for these courses?
    in your last year of uni?
    Also can apply to them both in the same year

    You can apply for teach first in the summer before your last year of uni starts. PGCE applications open mid-October. You can't apply to teach first if you hold a PGCE offer, so the logical thing to do is apply to teach first in the summer and if unsuccessful apply for the PGCE.

    There are also other ways into teaching, such as SCITTs and the new School Direct scheme.

    what is the schools direct scheme and the SCITTs?

    A SCITT is School Centereed Initial Teacher Training, so it is basically more school based.

    School Direct is also a school based way of training. With some School Direct places you will also be awarded a PGCE though.
