I understand, along with Maths and Sciences, English language is considered one the most important GCSES. I was wondering if universities or people in general consider an 'A' grade bad, or below-par. I am borderline A/A*, and I was just wondering if getting an A grade will affect of my chances of university admission (e.g. for medicine).

An A will do you no harm at all. By all means, if you're borderline then work hard to get the better grade, but if you don't make it won't cause you any problems.

They're not too bothered about GCSEs and even so an A in English is brilliant. A-Levels are what affect chances more.
