Given the opportunity, would you choose option 1 or 2?
Work for a large, well known organisation who can provide further education, promotions etc. but knowing you would have to travel 1 hour each way, 5 days a week on public transport with during peak hours. You get the chance to live in a nice home in the suburbs which is all you can afford.
Work for a small, unknown business with very little further study support but you only have to travel under 30 minutes each way by car. Promotions are unlikely. You still live in a relatively nice home in the suburbs.

Option 1. 1 hour isn't too bad of a commute - a guy I work with commutes 2.5hrs each way and is writing a book, just find a way to make use of it.

Option 1, pretty sensible decision imo.
