They could ask what's ionisation energy, the markscheme says something about enthalpy change required to remove an electron from the outer shell of a gaseous atom. Our teacher taught us to say the minimum amount of energy required to remove an electron from a gaseous atom and said it was the same thing. Would AQA still give the mark for my teacher's definition?

Also, if they don't say to give an answer to 3 significant figures or etc and you give the answer to 3sf and the markscheme gives it to 2sf, do you still get the mark?

Yes, that's a proper definition that your teacher has given you.

If they've not specifically said how many significant figures (you should look at the sf of the information you've been given technically) then it's highly unlikely you'll be penalised, the mark scheme will probably say to allow 2sf or more.
