The Student Room Group

Everything seems a bit pointless

Welll... Yeah.

I don't feel I've got many "proper" friends lately. I've pretty much stayed in all weekend. And I was just sat now doing some work and I thought.. "Whats the point"? Ok, so I get a degree, possibly a decent job after. But I can't see myself making any decent friends. And whats the point in having money, if you have nothing to spend it on? Without friends, theres so little to do.

It's a gorgeous day outside, but I have no inclination to even leave my room. I feel so lonely. I don't even want to go home anymore, because there I have just as few friends.

What can I do? To make everything a bit more worthwhile and to introduce a bit more fun and excitement?

I'm a shy person by nature anyway (Mostly), I just don't seem to know how to make friends. I'm in halls, and beyond the people living in my flat, I don't talk to anyone else, and it feels abit too late to change this now.

Join a new society, try eating out somewhere different or studying in more public places?
May bump into people with similar interests perhaps?

Its never too late to make new friends or come out of your shell. When you do get out,you will feel loads better trust me,I think most people feel the way you do sometimes,Its just getting yourself back up once you do you feel loads better.Just try and be yourself around new people i know its easier said than done,If they dont like you so what,Im sure there ill be lots of people who will like you and theres lots of people out there who will share the same intrests as you!Hope you feel better soon xxx

aww dont worry boo. Maybe u need to venture out...go some place different...find new friends there. I used get into the whole 'happiness is over rated' despressive moods too, but then i was like **** that. there are so many things i havent done, why not work for them. What makes me happy is doing crazy stuff like running around the living room naked. dressing up just for the hell of it. kissing random people. things like that lol things dont need to have a 'point' as long as they make u happy

When I'm out drinking I can have an awesome time, mainly because I can have a good dance, and its a reason to talk to those of the opposite sex. But. It sometimes feels as though I only have one or two friends to go out with (larger groups are always more fun) and that if they aren't enjoying themsleves, neither am i. Also, where could I study more publicly? I could go to the library, but noone talks to each other much in there (or so I find). I could also go sit on the common and study, but then I'd look weird! Argh it seems to difficult to get out there and make new friends, and that just puts me on more of a downer!

I just need a good whinge really, but thanks for the replies :-) And no, I'm noones twin...

I think you should relax, first of all, and think everything you do now will be useful in the future.

Meeting people on the net is a good way of knowing people from you area. Some people would say that's not a natural or correct way of meeting people but I can tell it was perfect for me, I met my best friend male seven years ago on the net and he's still my best friend, we've shared lots of things together (even if he doesn't live in my city) and we can rely on each other for everything.

I sometimes felt like you though but you just have to think a change is possible! Never leave your studies and the less you think about it, the sooner you'll find some friends around. By the way, if you fancy talk about anything, just tell me  I hope you feel better!

Get out of your flat, go and join a sports team or society. Get up early and make the most of your days. Eat fine food and drink good drinks. Do exercise, get yourself healthy and you'll feel better.
