Just wondering about the College Orchestras....

I'd really like to be able to play in one of the college/university Orchestras/bands etc., but I know there are LOADS of great musicians in Cambridge . So just how good do you have to be to get into the College Orchestras (I currently hold a deferred place for Engineering at Clare for 2005). I've done grade 8, but I've heard that quite a lot of the NYO end up in Cambridge!!! Oh, and I also play the flute, and so does everyone else it seems!!!!!

    Sigh.....

    Well if anyone knows...

For CCMS (Clare College Music Society) yes, the college orchestra is very good and especially hard to get into if you are a wind player. They do have some sort of rotation so that all decent players get to play at some point, but you won't get as many chances as if you were a string player, sorry Even then you have to be scarily good! And yes, we have lots of NYO people and generally very good musicians.

Yeah, I know it won't be the same at others, but this guy is coming to Clare, so he should be told what it's like!

I agree! Thanks for telling me it how it is. I suppose I'll just have to work really hard, perhaps aim for a diploma. Alternatively, I could learn a very rare instrument very quickly..... Is there much demand for spoon players???

    what instrument do you play?
Flute (I said so above!) - That's part of the problem
    - P.S. does experience of ensemble playing count for anything?
