did either of you do the concrete bench? did you say it was sand cast? and where was the 'name 3 hardwoods' or 'what is a thermoplastic' and i can't even begin over stupid giraffes. also on the front it said to answer 6 questions, but you had 5 in section A and 1 in Section B and 1 in section C lol

lol really? [for the 6 questions part]

should of seen my giraffes, they were hideous - and I take a level art aswell :/

3 hardwoords/thermoplastic?!

literally everyone in my class were like 'uh oh!' when we turned the first page because normally they'd ask what CNC stands for, not the definition :/

yeah on the front it said to answer 6 questions haha. my giraffes were awful not going to lie.
yeah every paper apart from todays has like 'name 3 hardwoods' or 'what is a thermo plastic' so annoying
i asked my teacher and it basically was like a computer controlled machine by using co-ordinates on the y,x and z axis.
it was a tough one though

oh i get what you mean - yeah I found it a bit odd compared to past papers
How much will you think the grade boundaries will lower by? I mean, 9 marks for the fabricating the giraffe as a one off was a bit too much in my opinion
- and the grade boundaries for an A has been rising by 2 everytime in the most recent ones, 56 I think it was in June

I didn't do the concrete question but i thought it was casting but wasn't sure so went for the other one.
I know! It had no similar questions to before.
Yeah, I think think the giraffe one was silly, for the material I put MDF but apparently that's wrong?!
Can see myself resitting again at the rate, very annoyed

im not sure, it was a hard paper! and i was resitting it, so grade boundaries might be lower for that and plus year 12's first time, could lead to lower grade boundaries. hoping for it to be lower than junes.that fabrication question was really odd! but if you look at each paper so far they have one odd question nothing on the last paper. i think though its a good paper. they had to change it sometime

yeah i didnt want to do two 8 mark questions! so went for concrete. it was such a frustrating paper! nothing like the ones before. i put plywood, but on the image you could see that it was made from chipboard but i couldn't remember what chipboard was called!!
hopefully it will be lower grade boundaries, because it was an odd paper like last years jan paper with the redesign question on the end!

lol I'm a year 12 :P was gonna sit it last june when I was sitting for gcses though

well I actually don't see the point of changing the paper now seeing as the ''5 year cycle'' is due - if they still do that. And so surely they should change it next year? idk :/

They both weren't ideal. I know! Yeah I think plywood is right, it just didn't look like it.
Hopefully! We're you resitting?

oh haha awks loal. it makes sense changing it a bit really, there have been 8 papers already, and all 8 so far have had plastics on. so will potts obviously lies to mix it up with giraffes and stuff ahaha

i was lucky really, i revised some fabrication and sand casting the day before but they were really odd questions. yeah i was resitting, got a c in june last year, but would like a B in the exam as it would be easier this year. especially with PROD 3 which looks mega hard! anyway i got told to resit as i'm doing product design at uni haha

Not gonna lie I keep resitting PROD1 so I can get the best grade possible, the grades should be lower like you said they're decreasing by two each time, if it was 58 last time hopefully I'll pull off an A miracle.

See I think both MDF and chipboard you will get right and ply you won't that giraffe was to thick for 10 ply and that's as thick as it comes. MDFis strong making it perfect for security etc. chipboard would also be perfect, cost effective, strong etc.

The first question hada lot of complaints from other students but it seemed pretty logical to me.

The fabrication threw me a bit but I still managed to get it down.
That paint, specific paints question was nasty as hell!

Did really seem like a strange paper so hopefully the boundaries will drop

My answer for the first one was awful. Literally turned over front cover and my heart sank. Just went on about how the computer does it for ya. So bad aha. And yeah my giraffes were rubbish, looked like some retarded dog thing. Really hope we've all done well in that resit, don't wanna resit a resit in the summer...

I know this is a bit late but for the last question of the giraffe, it said develop the idea (improve/expand) or something like that. But at that time i drew a completely different design altogether, i'm guessing i wont get any marks for that?

You probably will get some marks! Probably not over half though. As long as it was kind of linked? I guess we'll find out Thursday! good luck everyone
