Stuck at university, can't afford to leave?!

I am in the process of trying to drop out of university, but after seeing the student finance officer I'm starting to realise I might not be able to afford it!
My student maintenance loan covers my accommodation, which I am contracted to pay for the next year, if I leave then I will get no loan and therefore unable to pay my accommodation.:frown: My parents cant pay it for me, is there anyway out of this?! I can't stay, I hate it and will just continue to rack up more debt as the year goes on :s-smilie:

Thanks

Hi, I know how it feels to not be enjoying university as I left myself, earlier this year. I didn't have this problem because I dropped out in September before I started paying anything or before the Student Finance Company started paying me. Because of the situation you are in, I would recommend staying just for this year, then transferring to point 2 entry at a different university in September. This seems like the best idea. However, if you really can't tolerate the university you are in and are 100% certain you want to leave, then I think you should do so now, because the longer you stay at uni the higher your debt will rise. I am sure everything will work out for you, good luck!

My girlfriend is in this situation, we live in a nice flat and I know if she could she would leave but the council tax here is so high we would have to move if she wasn't a student. The council tax is £1800 a year (city centre).

I just left university myself and I know the stress of debt is quite over-bearing but if you want to leave, do so now before you get in more debt. About accommodation, you can advertise your room and hope that someone takes over your contract meaning won't have to pay for rest if the year. I was lucky enough and found someone to do this so I only have to pay until the other girl moves in.. Make sure that leaving uni is the right decision for you, and get in contact with student finance ASAP, even though the uni and student finance will keep fobbing you off to each other, which is highly annoying..

Hi, thanks for your replies, I have decided to leave my university which was The Royal Agricultural College, there are empty rooms so I wont be able to fill my room so I will have to pay. I'm just going to set up a payment plan and do it that way!. The course isn't what i would thought it would be and I see no point in racking up the debt in something I have no interest in. I don't regret going as I now know that its not for me, but it is an expenisive mistake!
