Durham: Classics

Why has Durham rejected some applicants for undergraduate Classics and made offers to others whilst I have still had neither rejection nor acceptance? Does this mean that the cause is lost?

Hello!! I've applied for Classics at Durham too!! I haven't heard a decision yet either! I went up on an open day and apparently the Classics department there is notoriously bad for late replies! So no - the cause is not lost! Have you already done Greek/Latin?

Not necessarily. It doesn't really mean anything,

It may be that they haven't assessed your application yet or the decision is still being processed. They could have decided to give you an offer but your application is with a college awaiting a decision from them. If that college has filled their quota of classics students you will be allocated to a different college and this can take some time.

Decisions are made across extended period of time, not just a matter of days. There will be offers and rejections sent out over the coming weeks and months.

Moving to the Durham subforum.

I wouldn't worry, they would've given offers/rejections to the strongest/weakest applicants at this stage - the deadline has only just passed! Chances are they're still assessing your application and haven't yet decided whether they want you or not as it'll depend on what the later applicants have to offer, so it could be anything.

I believe they assign colleges after giving offers nowadays so you would've heard if they're just waiting on the colleges.

Basically just wait and see and don't read too much into it.

Good luck to you! In answer to your question; yes I am taking both Latin and Greek at A2 level but didn't have the opportunity to study Greek until Year 11 and even then after school. Thank you for your response.

Many thanks for such a commonsensical response. Guess one knows this but considers oneself 'weaker' rather than one of the 'stronger' applicants.
