Is there a limit on how much money you can transfer from banks (in particular Yorkshire Bank and Halifax) in the UK to a bank in Australia (to Westpac)? And how long does it take?

Everything's happening last minute here, and I kind of need to pay my tuition fees in the next 12 hours - like 15k pounds (no pound sign on keyboards down under O___O)...so yeah

Also, is it possible just for my parents to pay directly from their account in the UK without transferring the money?

Any advice appreciated

Thank you

The limit is normally pretty large, larger than 15k. It usually takes 3-5 business days. Your parents could pay but it will still have to be routed through international payment network and will incur this charge.

Your bank will charge a fee of something like £25 and may give you a crappy exchange rate. You will be significantly better off if you lose a specialist FX broker like www.hifx.co.uk to transfer the money.

I don't think there is any way to do an international transfer in 12 hours.

As suggested above, use a broker and it is possibly same day. Doesn't always happen, but it is possible.
