I reckon 40+ would put you in good stead.

ya ivy league , you better get 39 ~ 42
BUT IB isn't the thing that they're looking for .. the thing is that you'll have to get an almost perfect score > 2100 on your sat, and some 800's on your sat II
IB is just like some extra points to your sat.
they mainly evaluate your school grades and sat.

once you're admitted, you are .. there is no conditional offers .. so a pass might be fine i guess.

To be honest, for an Ivy, I think 2100 is on the low side. Aim for 2200+.

that's not true.. i got into an ivy... the best ivy (guess which  )... and my sat was not even close to 2000.. not even the sat 2s... they were far below 800... but i did have predicted 42 points

You got in an Ivy school??? Ok, then which one, because I want to go to an Ivy school as well but I reckon that the IB would be regarded as like paying in Gold, (or oil) for them! Because in america you can take AP course and that is like the lowest level courses you can take compared to A-levels and then the IB...(Which is the BEST). So you were predicted 42 points, so what did you REALLY get???

Harvard, and I'd be surprised if I was wrong.

the thing is, if you were predicted 42 points ... how can you NOT do well in SAT's ?! even SAT II's

Ok, so we have one person studying at Havard (the school were I want to go btw) saying that we need 2200 on SAT and 800 on SAT II plus 40 on the IB diploma. Then we have this other guy saying that we dont need to meet those requirements...So im confused? What do we need to get into a really good Ivy school? and I thought they would love someone with an IB diploma??? or am I wrong?

yep.. i'm going to harvard.. i was predicted 42 but i think i wont get more than 38... i really did bad at sats.. i'm not very good at solving tasks quickly ....but i got in.. i'm an athlete though  extracurriculars are also very important..
for american scores, a good ib (~40) and great SAT's is only the start. they want lots of extracaricular activities, community service, involvement on research (basically everything IB students DONT HAVE TIME FOR) and showing of passion.

I got into several top universities including Ivies and Duke this year.

I was a predicted 42. Your IB mark has NOTHING to do with your acceptance, the IB isn't that much of an advantage which is why I'm slacking off and try to get a 30 haha.

For top schools, you need a 2100+ SAT score, VERY high GPA, dedication in certain extracurricular activities, leadership roles and good recommendations.

u can find some info about people who applied and got accepted/rejected to ivies at this forum: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/

What special thing did you have jav? Cos my logic is that they'll have more than enough people with full marks on SATs, so you'll need to have something that stands out from the rest.

What do you need suggestions on?
Grades for US unis..hmmm
I got into Dartmouth and Wellesley. I have no idea what my predicted grades are because my school has a policy of withholding them until the very end! So, anyway I do know my SATs. Sat 2s I got 2100 altogether (i did 3) and 2020 in the SAt1s..I don't think they need really high grades they consider 650s and above good. So relax do your best. I think theessay is the most important-plus they loove the IBs

36 without bonus points and above is pretty ok..they have a more realistic approach to the IBs than the brits do...6 in all ur subjects is the lower limit of an excellent grade..

This may be a stupid question, but what exactly is GPA? I know it stands for grade point average, but is that?

Two of my IB classmates who went to the US got unconditional offers (they had really high predicted grades). Not Ivy universites though, they went to Hamilton and University of Washington.
