Wondered if anyone was good at maths and could help.

Does anyone know how big a hall would have to be to accommodate a standard athletics track. Would need to know minimum length and width of the hall.

http://www.dsr.wa.gov.au/athleticstrackeventdimensions

it seems to suggest these for the lengths and widths of the track, although due to the widths being semi-circles it will need to be more than the 84.39mx72m suggested.

I found that, but it doesn't say the size of the whole thing, as a rectangle. I've founds tonnes of sites that say that, but none that do the length from one end to the other for length and width.

Radius of each semicircle is 36.5m, each straight is 84.39m. This makes a width of 2\times 36.5=73m, as the semicircle IS the whole width of the track.

The length of the track needs to be 84.39+(2\times 36.5)=157.39m because there are two semicircles on each end.

If my calculations are correct, width is 84.39m, length is 157.39m.

Seems very large to have in a hall!!

Thank you. largest sports hall size is a 15 court (40.6m X 64.05m), so yeah will be a very big hall.

This seems stupid, surely your dad can hire someone else to do this properly.

he is a commercial and events architect, but he doesn't really deal in sport, hence why he needed to know the minimum size so he could design a space that could accommodate it.
