I'm in the process of replacing my old Nokia which is a piece of junk. So far i've narrowed it down to an iPhone 4S for £31 a month or an iPhone 5 for £36 a month. I've never had a contract phone before, and i'll not use the unlimited texts or calls but the internet browsing sounds cool and also having a smart phone is trendy (don't judge me)
However the iPhones are hardly the best when it comes to reliability and i've heard the battery life is poor. Can anybody recommend any other phones to get? I usually get pay as you go phones, but the good ones that i'd like are way too expensive and i'm saving up for a DSLR.

Thanks

Don't get an iPhone.

Get a Samsung Galaxy S3 - It's the best smartphone you can get atm, as far as i know. Much better than any of that iPhone crap that's for sure.

Can highly recommend Nokia's Window phones. Just that little bit cheaper (my lumia 710 was £120 upfront, £7 a month on contract with 3). Admittedly they don't have access to as many apps, but it is improving, very reliable and easy to use, fast internet, lots of good useful apps, but more the necessary ones rather than lots of ones you probably don't really need, as seems to be the case with iphones.

This site has what I think are the two best android phones available both for less than you've found the 4S and 5 for.

http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobil...lack/30,108151
http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobil...Plus/85,108148

Both are easily as good as the iPhone though I should warn you that although that website has unbeatable prices, the customer service leaves a lot to want for.

HTC One S is nice, and much cheaper than either iphone. The S3 is absolutley massive - unless you have big hands you cant even hit the whole screen with one thumb.

Lmao just how small are your hands? I have small hands and I just typed this with one thumb on my S3.

There must be a bunch of deformed people going around as so many say the S3 is too big to use. That or they've never actually used one before.

I've had an android for the past 2 years, and I'd say don't get one if it's the web browsing you particularly want. It's not really that fast, although I have an older model, one of the first, so it's probably been updated by now.

I just got rid of my Galaxy S3 after three months as an upgrade from having an iPhone 4, and now I'm back to an iPhone 5 because I feel as though the operating system on an iPhone is better than that of an Android I'm the sense that it lasts better for longer. I'm personally much happier with the way my iPhone works - and the games are better in my opinion

A friend of mine's got an iPhone for 3 years or so now, but it still works.
But I would advise you to get a phone and then get a sim only contract. You'll just be paying double if you get a phone with a contract. And by getting a sim only contract, you can easily get a cheap contract that suits your needs. Also, keep in mind that you may be able to use WiFi from time to time (also in some public places), so it isn't necessarily necessary to have so much MB internet.

And if you're getting a phone, make sure you check and see what the memory (RAM I think it's called) is at all times (also when you can put an SD card in), because my phone only takes 520MB and apps like twitter, facebook, whatsapp and such can't be put on my SD card.

That's probably it actually. The S3 is just in no way too big to use but I can definitely understand someone struggling to use the note one handed!

As has been said already, you must be thinking of the Note? I've got pretty small hands, and have never had a problem with the S3.

It depends on you, really. Have a lot of money to throw on the phone and like shiny, simple tech? iPhone 5 for you.

Understand the value of money, and understand a tiny bit of tech? Galaxy S3 is a good bet, others similar.

Have less money to throw on a phone? Galaxy S2 is also a good bet, but again there are similar.

Then there are specialist phones:
-Nexus 4 for the true pure android techies
-Motorola Razr Maxx if you want a lots of battery-life on a smartphone

Still too early in the game to go for a Windows Phone, in my opinion. Never get a Blackberry.

Nexus 4. This is just from what I know. The Galaxy S3, S3 mini seem nice enough too thought. But personally if I could chose a phone, I'd take the nexus 4. iProducts don't suit me as they are too restrictive and Apple uses more aggressive marketing tactics, which limit device capabilities and yet they can get away with selling things that are highly overpriced.

I too am using an old Nokia and plan to keep it for more time as I can't afford a new phone. (I'm a teenager saving money to move abroad and go to uni). The old Nokia is extremely solid and reliable compared to most modern smartphones though and has great battery life. (Mine still looks new).
