Many people might not know about the GNVQ. The GNVQ (General National Vocational Qualification) was a vocational qualification that discontinued a few years back. It was marked as either Pass, Merit, or Distinction.

The intermediate GNVQ was said to be equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C. There was lots of criticism about this, but, no matter how much criticism, it still is "officially" equivalent to 4 GCSEs.

So...I myself have a GNVQ in Media: Communication and Production, and got a grade "Merit". So what would this be equivalent to? BBBB? BBCC? Is there any official answer on this?

Looks like I've managed to find the answer to my own question:

http://www.bstubbs.co.uk/half.htm

According to that link, a Merit in a full intermediate GNVQ is worth exactly double of B & B at GCSE equivalence.... so 4B's... (Technically anyway, as I know GNVQs were criticised and looked down upon)
