    If anyone could help me out that'd be grand - tried using the substitution u = cosx and got -lncosx + c ( after using the identity tanx=sinx/cosx but i'm not sure if it's right.

    i believe thats right. you could also bring the '-' up as a power to get ln|sex(x)| +C

    where sex(u) == sec(u)
