What does (|X-7|< 3) mean?

I'm doing a probability question where 2 dice are thrown and their scores are added. I have to show what the probability of (|X-7|< 3) is, the answer is you work out P(x=5) + P(x=6) + P(x=7) + P(x=8) + P(x=9) but why? What does (|X-7|< 3) even mean?

Thank you

the bars mean that whatever is inside, it made positive.

So for instance |-7| = 7

so if |X| < 2 , is the same as: -2< X < 2

What are you unsure about

|n| means the magnitude of n
