Optometry....the Opthalmology??

hi,
i was just wondering if it is possible to do an optometry degree and eventually do opthalmology. I know that you have to do medicine first, and then specialise. but is that the only way..? surely, you can do optometry as an alternative, then with experience you can do opthalmology..? can any1 tell me..will be greatly appreciated

reply back asap, thanks

That is not possible.
I know an optometrist who decided he wanted to become an ophthalmologist. He went to Leicester uni to study the 4 yr graduate entry medical degree.
Ophthalmologists are medically trained.
Hope this helps!

you need medicine for opthalmology which is a pain because i really wanted to do opthalmology but dont want to do medicine. so now, im settled for optometry and if i do get the degree, then i want to work in a hospital. which i suppose is kind of what an opthalmologist does
