Justin Bieber, mainly because he has a lot of fans (both male and female) and always seems to be in the news or on a TV interview

The difference is messi is still going to be famous in a year and many many years to come...

biebers popularity is short term, since he's essentially a talentless puppet

Messi

This, in 50 years Messi will be just as well known, Biebs won't.

She is much more famous than Messi at the moment.

Who cares about who is famous anyway, a lot of famous people are talentless anyway.

How do you know that? I mean Messi will be well known in 50 years as one of the best players at football but how do you know that Justin Bieber will still not be well known- probably as the singer who got a lot of hate.

Bieber, because you can't really escape from him. Unless if you're in North Korea, you could probably ask anyone who Justin Bieber was, and they'd at least have a vague idea of who he is, and what the song "Baby" is.

Messi, on the other hand, would only be reported about if you were looking at sports' columns. He's not as big a pop culture "icon" as Bieber. He also wasn't an extremely late bloomer, as far as we know.

Because Bieber will be replaced by whatever contrived act they come up with next.

Meanwhile his fans will grow up.

It's not like it would be the first time that a famous act has disappeared into obscurity.

To the people who are saying messi hasnt reached his peak and will be one of the greatest in 10 years or when he wins the world cup although this may be true look at players like Ronaldo (Brazillian), Raul and Zidane, you cant say they are more famous than Bieber ?Today? if you get what im saying.

Justin Bieber is getting too much attention though to be one of those acts who disappears. You will be able to say the name Justin Bieber in 50 years time and people would remember who he was. His videos would also be around for people to see and I think he has the 2nd most popular video on youtube- probably mostly viewed by haters but still.

I would say Messi, if I had to take a guess. I don't think quite as many people in non-English speaking countries are likely to know who Justin Bieber is, as they do here. Whereas that's not really the case with Messi. Also, I think Messi receives a lot more publicity, in the sense that he's on TV at least twice a week, he's appeared at the World Cup, one of the world's most widely viewed televised events etc.

Thats what i thought in the countries like South America, Asia, and Africa and some remote areas Messi is probably more likely to be famous.

They might remember them in the same way as I can vaguely remember groups like S Club 7 - but when people look back on the best artists of the last 10, 50, 100 years etc, they arn't going to be thinking about bieber.

Having hits on youtube doesn't mean anything - a fat person falling over can get that. Gangnam style got many more in way less time - I highly doubt i'm going to be talking to my grandchildren about gangnam style... I might still be listening to the Smiths though.

I agree - I have family in India, and even though it's more of a cricket watching country, they've all heard of Messi, as well as some of the other footballers who are less famous than their clubs (people like Sami Khedira and Antonio Valencia etc.).

I don't know if they'd have heard of Justin Bieber, but I know a lot of them hadn't heard of Taylor Swift.

I think Messi is more famous. Around the world, the name Messi surely must be more known than Bieber.
Look at the industries they're in. Bieber can only appeal to so many, people in South America are unlikely to know him, parts of Asia too! Football is a world sport, for that reason I think Messi is more famous.

I'm sure people have been using the "unknown in a year" argument for the past 5 years.

I believe that's where you're very wrong. Obviously people wouldn't bother spending time on those with no talent. He will be around for many many more years to come you just wait and see. Haven't you realised he's been around for 5 years now and y'all keep saying the same thing. Smh.

Anyway I say Bieber is more popular😊
