Arts not Art? As in, BA not BSc?

Expect nothing less than £18,000 and nothing more than £21,000 as starting.

And just what are you basing that on?

Err *******s.

There's a huge range and it depends on you, the job, your skills and education - the 'average' grad wage will vary massively between different sectors.

I'd imagine that about the highest you could realistically expect is something like working in IB (where Citytrader said the highest, that he knew of, was something like £69,000 p/a) and the lowest is probably around 14k (a guesstimate). Another educated guess, average for a professional 'graduate scheme' job would be 25k, though I stand to be corrected

Yep, I've heard of £35k base, as much as £30k bonus and about £5/6k sign on bonus, nice year 1 figue of £70k. Awesome. Pity a group of Socialists will stick their oar in and take 40% of it.

Its surely better than the minimum wage? Im a bit clueless really. Ill have an arts degree. So say i got a "good" job in a bank or some kind of company, what is the average per hour??? i know theres no exact, but if somebody could give me a guidelne...

Please help

These are rough figures based on a number of surveys around (BBC, Times, HighFliers, Prospects.ac.uk do them)...

- Average starting salary for all graduates across the UK is about £16k
- Average for grads starting at the top ~200 blue-chip companies affiliated with AGR (Association of Graduate Recruiters) is £23k
- Average for grads starting at London blue-chips is £26k
- Highest average for a uni is Imperial at £24k, at the other end some of the Scottish and Welsh ones are £13-14k

But take average figures with a pinch of salt as they are massively wide-ranging depending on sector, and they don't take into account bonuses. In the first year after graduating, people are on anything from £7k-£70k, a distribution roughly skewed with a £18-20k peak. Also, the same salary for a particular sector can work out as anything from £6-20/hour depending on which specific area they've gone into within the sector (particularly applies for banking).

I have a BA and i'm on about £21,000, but my monthly income does vary depending on how much overtime i do, and how many night shifts. I wasn't expecting to earn more than £16,000 when i graduated, but i got lucky! I'm earning the most out of my friends, i think the lowest is £18,000 and £21,000 being the highest out of my mates and i (with BA's)

Most new graduate jobs on the NHS (Band 5) have the standard minimum starting salary of £21,176 (+ inner/outer/fringe London cost supplements which ranges from an extra £1000-£6000 a year).
