I'm just coming to the end of my 2nd year mental health nursing diploma. In the first year I had two 9 week placements, one in an acute psychiatric ward and one in a dementia ward. In the 2nd year, we had some choice to do speciality placements, I think the choices were substance misuse, forensic, CAMHS, mother and baby and deaf unit. I chose substance misuse and forensic. In the 2nd year we had three 6 week placements, I've been on an inpatient forensic ward, a community substance misuse team and an assertive outreach team. Hope this helps!

I am thinking of doing mental health nursing, it sounds very interesting , but is it really stressful, do you ever feel uncomfortable in people's company who have serous psychotic problems
