I have to reply to this as what your friends have said is utter crap! There are plenty of good places to go. Around the uni i will grant that it isn't amazin, but everything is within a 5-10min free bus ride away. Most notably Brick Lane and the adjoining Shoreditch which is somewhat a hub of activity on nights out and provides endless places to go. No matter where you go in London you will have to branch out and try new places and QM is no different. There are good enough bars to satisfy a small night out and the occasional big one, but clubs and bars such as rhythm factory and 1001 are still close and increasingly popular
i always assuemd the nightlife/student life at qm was wicked. never really questionaed it...

Hey, I'll tell & you a bit about the nightlife in and around QMUL campus:

On the Campus itself there is the Union pub - 'Drapers' or the drapers arms to give it its full name. Drapers has a good atmosphere and can get quite busy, expecially on a monday night 'happy mondays' is a good night out with many drinks at just £1.
Until this year we also had a club in the union, called E1, this is going over the summer to make way for a gym and general refurbishment of the union. Don't worry you're not going to lose out, they're extending drapers over the summer, and E1 was sh*t anyway!

Just off campus you have a pub called The New Globe, this is a great place in my opinion, particularly good on a thursday night as they have a DJ and play more rock and alternative music. (Make good use of this if you're into rock etc, alot of the local stuff is R&B)

Down the road near Ifor Evans halls is The Old Globe, I've never been in myself but I hear its not too bad.

You also have The Hayfield on mile end rd, which is a yellow card pub. This means if you buy a yellow card (£2 student thing) then drinks get alot cheaper and you can get in for free. The Hayfield tends to be a bit more rowdy, its often full of sporty types who drink lots.

There is of course the token wetherspoons pub, just past stepney green station. Its great for a cheap meal and cheap drinks but better in the day really than at night.

There is a local club called Purple, its right by mile end station and looks a bit like a garage from the outside. Inside though its not a small place. Its very much an R&B type of club, not my scene but I'm sure if thats your thing then its a good night out.

'La Luna' tapas bar by day and student bar by night is situated right across the road from campus. Although quiet during the evening, you find that when drapers closes for the night, crowds of drunken students cross the road to dance over at la luna. Its not bad at all when its crowded, the atmosphere is good on a monday night after 'Happy Mondays' has got everyone a bit smashed. Also they do cocktails nights, salsa nights, and entry is free for those with a QMUL id card.

If these places don't appeal to you, or you want a bigger night out then central london is just a bus ride away. The 25 runs from right outside campus into central london, stopping at places including holborn, tottenham court road and oxford street. The 25 bus runs 24 hours a day making it easy to stumble out of a club at 4am and still make it back home safely.

If you have any more questions then feel free to message me about it!

P.S. Check the student union website for pictures of some of the events: http://qmsu.org/photos/
^^ aww thanks that was really useful.

In understand that E1 will be closing in December.

Local area wise; I'd add Soma, The Association, Blind Beggar, 93 Feet East, Vibe Bar, Resteraunts and Brick Lane and Lee Hurst's Backyard Comedy Club.

guys i've been at QM for 2 years now and i love the night life - i'm president of QM rowing and i love E1 - the place wouldn't be the same without hail mary - just a quick note to say that the chances seem to be that E1 won't be shutting down now after all - i've been chatting to the VP for student activities and according to him it would cost to much and if it goes ahead it won't be until next year anyway, so many more drunken hail marys and mary's cheese nights await
so wont there be a new gym then?
