Ooh cool sounds good. I did mine on gender and whether theres a relationship between that and the toys children play with. It was really interesting to see how stereotypical gender themes affect children at the age of like four and five

Oh gosh you'll have to find somewhere pretty soon won't you? You might just end up having to go with anything and stick it out for the year. I'm not familiar with the warrington area much so I'm not sure of any accomodation nearby x

Oh that sounds interesting too  I have always enjoyed learning about different gender stereotypes.
Yeah think I have found somewhere - a house share with another girl not far from the campus. Going for a viewing on Tuesday!
What subject are you specialising in btw? Mines English x

Sorry about the late reply, my phone hasn't been giving me any notifications. Ooh cool I'd be specialising in English too  Do you know for these signing sessions in June and July, do we have to attend both or just one? The letters we've been sent make out as though its compulsary to attend one of them but I wasn't sure x

I have chose English too .
Did u manage to sort accommodation out?
i think we only have to go to one signing session but the letters and emails arent very clear really x
Reply 25
Oh cool thats good! yeah I'm assuming we just have to go to one of them. I don't think I can make it to the June one so I'll have to go to the July one. Might just ring them up just to double check x

Hi, Just wanted to introduce myself as I will be starting at Chester in Sept. Really looking forward to it, although I know it will be a hard year .....but worth it. In relation to the induction day - yes you can just attend on 26th July for induction and also for crb signing. You can also attend the June one but seems pointless as its just for the crb signing. Anyone a mature student on here. I completed my degree a couple of years ago and will prob be one of the oldest as I am 36. Looking forward to meeting everyone, hoping I can attend the overnight stay but not sure yet. x

Hello Ladies

My names Vickey and I am also starting on the PGCE early years course at the Warrington campus in September 2013. I am beyond excited but also a bit apprehensive at the amount of work it will entail. Looking forward to learning to do something I enjoy though! I have just finished my degree at Edge Hill uni in childhood and youth studies. I am 30 so will also be a mature student, I have 2 children of my own so looking to balance work and family life - am sure it will be a challenge. Does anyone know when the overnight stay is??

Hi Vickey I have the impression that its the first week in Sept, but could be wrong. It is a good way to meet everyone and I hope I can make it but not sure yet as I also have two children. I am really glad its a small group in comparison to other uni's. I am not far from Manchester but did not want to apply there as my friend (who is at manchester) said there are 140 on the course and she suggested its very much 'your on your own'. Anyone in or near the Stockport area that will be commuting. If so, I am happy to give a lift as I will be driving - only half an hour on motorway. x

Hello everyone  I'm 21 and graduating in July at Edge Hill. Yeah it will be an intense course by the sound of things but it's exciting at the same time. I'm glad its a small group of 30 aswell. My Early Years degree was a pretty similar structure and we were quite a close group  x

Hi everyone
I have an interview for the PGCE Early Years at Chester Uni - Warrington campus next wednesday and am so nervous!
I am a mature student too so it is nice to see there are a few already accepted onto the course. I have been so busy revising for and passing the skills tests, so now they are out of the way I am planning for the interview; does anyone have any helpful tips? look forward to hearing from you.
Hi guys  sorry not been on in a while, forgot my password AGAIN :/ lol! Im 20, will be 21 when we start the course! I have not long got my degree results back and found out I got a 1st! Absolutely buzzing, so excited to start the course now, cant wait! Im just going to go to the crb signing in June as I am going to be on holiday for the one in July - anyone going to that one? Will probs go to the overnight stay thing providing I have the money but that shouldnt be a problem.

I have managed to have a look at a nice house in Warrington around 10 mins away from the campus - its lovely and the landlord seems nice too! just in the process of sorting the tenancy agreement out!

Nice to speak to you ladies before we start by the way - I never did this when I started my degree so went in knowing noone so this time will be quite different in that sense!

With regards to any advice for the interview - I found it very laid back and the two women were very friendly! Make sure you ask some questions too, dont just sit there and answer theirs they will want you to show some interest by asking them questions. Make sure you go into detail about your experiences too and think about how that will impact on you being a great teacher. Im sure you will do fine  make sure you let us all know what happens! x

Hi, I have my interview as well on Wednesday and I am really nervous too, any advice anyone?

Aww well done, should be getting my results on friday  glad you got sorted with a house too!

In regards to the interview guys I agree with Chloe it was very laid back compared to previous ones I had. I had a man and woman on mine and both were very friendly. Yeah definately ask questions, especially after people in your group have done their presentations  Just shows interest into the general topics thats all. But yeah it was laid back, quite informal almost. If you prepare well I'm sure you'll do fine  x
Thanks cwhittle I was buzzing haha! Still cant believe it! Thanks
Regarding the interview, just to further what cwhittle stated - make sure you get fully involved in the group discussion after the presentations and bring new topics up! Do your research - choose what you are going to do your presentation on and research around the topic (maybe get some stats - I did  ) and maybe look into some of the other things you can do your presentation on as that way you know what others will be doing theirs on so you can become fully involved in the discussion so you are not just sat there. Try not to be too quiet but also dont be too loud either, give the others time to talk aswell  Im sure you will both do fine x
Hi, I'm also due to start the PGCE Early Years course at Warrington in September  just wondering what people are doing about accommodation? I'm moving from Northern Ireland and don't really know what to do!

Hiya

I thought it would be a good idea to do a kind of roll call as there is a few of us on here now all starting in September. I think it would be nice to have a few people that we are vaguely familiar with when we start.

So I will start it off........

I'm Vickey, age 30, live in Wallasey on the Wirral so I will be travelling into Warrington every morning (its about a 35 minute drive). I am graduating from Edge Hill university in July with a BA (hons) in childhood and youth studies and fingers crossed I am on to get a first (results out Friday!!!!) I am married with two daughters aged 7 and 5. I am so excited to be starting on a PGCE and cant wait to get into schools and working with children. I have never officially worked within a school but have plenty of experience doing voluntary placements in schools and nurseries in the last 2 years. And that's about it I'm looking forward to the challenge of a PGCE and to meeting new friends x

...........if everyone writes a little blurb like this we can all start getting to know each other a bit now

On another note has anyone started on the essay we have to write for September yet? I was wondering what kind of resources people were using? As I no longer have access to a university library I am a bit stuck with books and I don't really want to buy them all.

Hope to hear from you all soon

Yeah thats a really good idea

Hey everyone, my names Christina, I'm 21 and from Wigan. That's not so far from Warrington, probably around a 30 minute drive in the morning  I will also be graduating from Edge Hill with Ba(Hons) Early Years Professional Practice and Leadership. Expecting a high 2:1, though I'll be gutted if I find out I was right on the boarder line of a first haha. My results are Friday too Vix - I bet we're in the same graduation ceremony with doing very similar courses
I've had alot of experience working with children over the last three years, as my course consisted of a placement two days a week and then uni for two days. My experience has been mainly within reception and year one, but I've been in nurseries and year 2 classes aswell. My Mum is a teaching assistant in a school and I recently helped out in her year one class, which was great. I was given opportunities to lead the class and its just made me so excited for September, as I had never taught a whole class before. Really can't wait to get started and to meet everyone properly  x

In regards to the essay, I have started planning for it, as in just writing some ideas down. I wasn't sure either about what to do about resources, as I can't afford to buy many books until September x

Hi Alicia,

I have just signed a tenancy agreement for a house that is a 30 min walk away from the campus or a 10 min bus ride away  £350 pcm all bills included. I did look at the uni accommodation and was defo not impressed by it - was very small and not my cup of tea lol. What you thinking of doing?
