eh? There is only one world wide web, www1, is used as an addressing system and its not common.

Anything that is on HTTP is the world wide web. The world wide web and the inernet are different things though.

Yes, the internet is a computer communication network, the world wide web is a body of data stored in computers word wide, accessible using the internet. (A network connection)

<pedantry>
Well not strictly true... intranets and all that.

Yeah I was just talking about on a global sense. But yes of course interanets or not on the world wide web. Although the front end is the same (i.e the browser). Is is the browser that seperates the internet and world wide web.

Can somebody please explain why it is spelt with an I? Just because Microsoft says it is. As far as I am conerned there is no reason it should be. It is not a registered trademark or anything. Ethernet is a registered trademark so is a name of a brand hence a capitol E. Internet is not registered by anybody as far as I am aware.

Actually this is a very good point. Spelling Internet with either a capital I or a lowercase i actually has importance in regard to it's meaning - Well spotted.

In the network layering sense, the internet is in the transport layer (TCP/IP) and the browser is in the application layer.
Argh the OSI layer, don't mention that evil thing to me! I spent the ages revising that only to get questions like "what part of the router strips of the masks to determine its network and hosts IDs" only a bit harder than that. I was so annoyed!

Yes its just the addressing system. Well the will be on different servers probably. The internet is just a collection of servers all connected to each other by routers. The routers send the binary data to the corrrect PCs. This message would probably go through 6 routers or so to get to you.

Yes, my teacher talked about it a couple of weeks ago. I'll have to read up on it to regurgitate it in the exam, but he emphasized the importance of whether the first letter is lower/upper case. Depending on which you use, the meaning is slightly different.

What did you teacher say then?
It was about 3 weeks ago, can't remember the exact details - He mentioned it very briefly and said just to make sure we read up on it before the exam.

The initial letter being upper/lower case does have a distinct effect on its meaning though.
