Russell Group unis are not necessarily a synonimous of academic excellent, they're just a research group. But what is TCD?
Trinity College Dublin? If so then yeah I would.

oooh, TCD. Now I get it. Well, it is considered to be the Oxbridge of Irleand, isn't it? Surely it's better than some of the unis making up the Russell Group.
My point exactly Kalen

From an Investment Banking perspective TCD has quite a few grads entering the profession in Front-Office positions each year. I've read of a couple at Cazenove and one at RBC. Having said that I wouldn't choose it over UCL which comes after ICL/LSE purely because UCL has a far better rep and much better career prospects.

Oxbridge of Ireland eh? And what's its competiton in Ireland? Hardly anything. It's nothing compared to the Russell Group unis who are far more established both in academics, reputation and career prospects.

But IB is only one, rather specialised career and shouldn't be the yard-stick for employment prospects.

Ireland has some good universities, but obviously they are limited since it's a country of four million people. Yet TCD is far and away the most renowned institution in that country and the Oxbridge comparison is in international terms ie. it can compete with the best of any country.

More establised than a university founded in 1592? Placed 111th in the world by THES (kicking the arse of quite a few Russell group universities) with an international reputation.

Russell group doesnt mean much. Its definitely does not have a reputation equivalent to the US Ivy leagues in the UK. No one would say Cardiff University is an 'elite' institution by any measure or standards. The question therefore is 'false' in the sense that Russell group doesnt really signify that much to begin with.

Considering IBs are one of the most competitive career tracks and require the best academic achievements from the best unis it's a viable benchmark. Yes TCD is the best in Ireland and that is not what I am refuting. What I am saying is that UCL, for example, is much better renowned in every department, whether we're talking academics, reputation or career prospects. As for the Russell Group, it certainly doesn't compare with the Ivies, Oxbridge/LSE/ICL being exceptions. 111th in the world isn't exactly something to shout about and it's reputation internationally, as far as I am aware and employers I have spoken to, is nothing compared to the aformentioned unis and the likes of UCL and Warwick.

I see you're speaking with a lot of experience, being an undergraduate computing applicant...

I'm not saying TCD is better than ALL the Russell group unis, but probably better than Cardiff, Southampton, Newcastle, Leeds or Liverpool, for example. And surely has a better international reputation than those unis.

leeds is ranked 13th overall and Liverpool in the top 5 for veterinary medicine theses are good university's , TCD may have been founded in 1592 but it was a protestant university essentially until late 1800, and until (believe it or not 1970) if you were catholic and wanted to attend TCD you had to ask the permission of the catholic church of Ireland..

"can you imagine" . i did think it was a good university until it made that repulsive women Hillary Clinton an Honorary Doctorate ... now i dont like it
TCD is reverred- you can actually swap an undergraduate degree from TCD for its equivalent at both Oxford and Cambridge. League tables are about funding and after Brexit TCD will be the only English speaking country in the EU (all EU funding previously given to England will go to Ireland)...you can get an EU passport if you live and study at TCD (as the degrees are 4 yrs long) and - as with Oxbridge- your undergraduate degree turns into a Masters without you doing anything...the Oxbridge connections are not just about the elitist cherished shared history but about profound organisational peculiarities that will result in UCD soaring up those league tables after Brexit...every Irish person in the world (and there are loads in America of course) revers TCD...going there is the lifelong dream of its students - who dreams of going to Bristol? Who? Nobody. Dreams matter. Elistist status matters. Fxxxk meritocratic mealy mouthed class-denying upwardly mobile chippy sods that would dare to quote an fxxxing league table ranking against a 16th century royal charter...oh and Oscar Wilde, Jonathan Swift and loads of amazing actors...
