Hi! I'm not really sure on big birthday party etiquette so I wanted to know what other people would do in this situation.
I have been invited to a really big joint 18th birthday party, one of the girls, I sort of know as she is in one of my classes and she's probably the one who invited me, but the other person, I have never spoken to her in my life and I don't even think she knows who I am!
Some of my friends and I were discussing whether or not we should buy presents, since it's like a 100 people party, I'm pretty sure not everyone would have bought them presents.
I'm having a big 18th birthday too and I don't expect presents off anyone.
I don't mind buying them a gift, I just wanted to know would it look really bad on me if I turned up without one as I'm not sure what to get them. I was thinking a bottle of alcohol as I don't know them well enough to know what they like?

I would do a card for them both and put a giftcard in eg. Boots/New Look.

How much money would you put in it?

Alcohol isn't a bad idea since they're turning 18, maybe just one of those cute little mini bottles of wine each as a token gift?

    Bottle of wine.

Then it could be her gift...or it could be for the party to add to the table. Sorted.

Yeah I wouldn't take a present, just a card and take alcohol for the party!

You can always 'recover' it later when you leave

I wouldn't get something for the girl you don't know- and I would hope she wouldn't expect anything of you either.

The girl you do know- give her a card with £10 in it.

    Sorted.

Alcohol would be a good idea, something girly and obviously for a birthday like pink champagne

For big parties at my school people don't tend to bring presents but if they do, which is rarely, then a bottle of champagne xx

I've never really seen anyone bring presents to big birthday parties, unless it's a bottle of alcohol they intend to drink half of themselves lol.
