39, I guess that seems reasonable... I'm not too fond of speaking in public, and working under supervision...

    35. A scale of 10 would've made it more credible, methinks

Definitely, same with the tests that give you the agree or disagree option, this is the problem with all these sorts of tests.

I don't get the fear bit? If you have a fear, you will avoid doing something. Do people seriously have a fear of eating in public, or returning goods to a store, or do they simply not want to do it?
You wouldn't. Unless you have SA then you will never understand it.

That's not me having a go at you by the way, think of it like a heterosexual person not being able to understand homosexual attraction.

Yeah this, I wouldn't say I have an extreme fear of eating in public, but I certainly fear it if I'm alone and will always avoid it if possible. I can see why people would find certain traits of SA difficult to comprehend though, to many people socialising and meeting new people and stuff like that just comes naturally, but with SA its quite terrifying, especially meeting new people.

The test is pretty crap, I got 38 which would put me strongly in the no social anexity group however I can tell you now that I can't speak to anyone I only slightly know, it just get really scared, this all stemmed from being bullied for 5 years by the "popular "group who befriended me just for the point of being nasty to me (didn't have any other friends to go away from them too). If I'm with a group of people who I'm kinda friend with I find it really difficult to get involved in a conversation and spend most of the time just standing on the outside of the circle just kinda pretending that I'm involved.

However I have no fear atall in speaking to people I don't know/doing presentations/speaking in front of people. Mainly because I don't have to bother about thinking about emotion.

Hence the later ballances out the problem from the prior and I end up with a normal score.

Yeah but if only affects you with people you only slightly know then that's just one facet of social anxiety. I mean you said you're fine with everyone else. What about people who aren't fine with anybody?

Plenty of people would be very scared in certain social situations, I think if the anxiety is consistent across all/many/numerous aspects of social interaction then that'd be considered more severe than if you're just really scared of eating in public but otherwise fine or whatever.

Agreed, however the test says to me that I have no level of social anxiety, which is untrue.

The test system which simply adds up all of the totals is seriously flawed because it doesn't differentiate between situation, you could be moderately scared all the time, or very scared half the time and fine the half and you would get the same score.

True, but it's only an online test

Fair point , I wasn't expecting it to be like an online phycologist. However supposedly its " This social anxiety test, which is a direct copy of the Liebowitz social anxiety scale (a recognized test developed by researcher and psychologist Michael Liebowitz) will help you determine if you suffer from a social anxiety disorder."

This worries me slightly that people may take the result it gives as an accurate answer when it clearly isn't. (Either that or Micheal Liebowitz is a complete idiot ).

    80. I hate talking to/socialising with people I don't know or don't know very well. (Unless I'm drunk)

Good old alcohol, I know people always say you shouldn't rely on it to have a good time blah blah blah, but what I would have done in freshers week without alcohol I don't know, would have been far too terrified to do anything or talk to anyone that's for sure. Though admittedly the last time I went to a party (which must have been over a year ago now) I got a bit too confident with the alcohol and got really shouty and loud around people I don't know and turned into someone completely different almost
