Go in and ask!
TBH I don't know any bookshops (especially university bookshops) that do a student discount? The Waterstones here in Soton certainly doesn't.

well just so everyone knows, Waterstones give 10% off books cds and films if you have a Barclays student account.

Yeah ours doesn't either. In fact it works out more expensive than buying books elsewhere.

Wasterstones on Deansgate (Manchester) always used to give 10% student discount but the one in St Annes square which is 100 yards away didn't. However the Deansgate one has stopped giving discounts now as well as WH Shit.

yeah, and they rip us off in my opinion!

really expenssive, and people assume they are run by the guild and therefore cheap.

my local bookshop does student discount, so it's worth trying the small non-chain ones that are tucked away. they also get you pretty much any book the next day if it needs ordering, unlike places like waterstones that take like 3 weeks. and they wrap everything up with brown paper and stringand have a fire in the shop all year round... it's a proper old fashioned nice shop.

Ottakers gives 10% discount for NUS students, but Blackwells sucks as it does not. Methuens (sp?) if it still exists used to give discounts too - I don't know many places that don't give an NUS discount really!

A fire in a book shop!
Wow, thats a really good idea!
The NUS card I got from my college gives me discount at Blackwells. Unfortunatley the only bookshops that are near me are Waterstones....ironic isn't it haha

I think that's only if you have a barclaycard. Or if you buy vouchers with your barclaycard you get 15% off.

Yeah and Barclay card is such a rip off. They are always trying to push there on campus trying to shove the card down our throats. I just politly tell them to go away, I have a £500 0% overdraft on my Abbey National card so why would I want to have credit card with 20% interest rates?

Blackwells DO give a student discount but I believe it's only for about 1 month of the year and even then it's something like 5% when you spend £25+.

I get whatever I need from amazon provided I don't urgently need it right away (which is rare for me at the moment but maybe will happen next year)

Next time I am in Southport I may check that out. Is it near Lord street?
