What is this new admission policy I hear people are talking about? Why are people complaining?

I heard about this. Apparently, from now onwards, all students must fulfill the following criteria: one must pronounce grass 'grarse' and bath 'barth', one must also own a waistcoat and enjoy profiteroles.

Weird, could've sworn there was another thread on this topic recently, but I can't find it for the life of me.

Here's the link to the Durham student newspaper article on the topic:

I think it explains everything that isn't just conjecture.

In short, any who applies for a place in a college automatically gets that place if accepted by their department UNLESS that college has no spaces left in their quota for that subject. If that happens all applications are subject to a ballot to determine who gets the place in that college.

The feeling at my college and similar colleges is that this takes away the feeling that the college has chosen you because it wants you, we are worried that we will lose the community feel that makes Durham colleges so individual. We are also not overly happy that the student body was not consulted before this decision was made.
