I want to study English literature with Spanish as a dual honours degree. Lancaster seems to be rated very highly on its English course... but very low in Spanish in comparison. In the Guardian the English department was rated at 21st, and in languages 56th in the UK.

What are your opinions on the department, and comparisons with other universities?

It depends what you're looking for, bathe language department here has a lot f focus on the culture, literature, history side of things and less on language. The Spanish staff and knowledgable and supportive but the range of courses is limited. I'd take a good look at the website and the course catalogue and see if you think it's for you. I've loved my 4 years here and wouldn't change it, but it's not for everyone.
