I'm a waste of space. Social Anxiety? Watch

Basically I worry about what people think about me all the time.
If I go out in the car with someone, I worry about what they think about my driving.

I don't like to talk to new people because I worry about what they might think of me.

I don't like to email/ pester people too often in case they think I am annoying.

If I see the slightest hint that someone is annoyed at me or bored with me talking, i'll get out straight away and avoid them because I worry about what they think of me.

I don't like to try new things because I worry what people might think of me.

I don't like to speak to strangers when i'm with people I know (For example, if I take my dog out for a walk with my parents, they say hello to people we walk past but I don't) because I worry they might think I was being weird.

    I could carry on, but I won't.

Because of this, I don't try anything new. I've been invited to a party a few times but I decline, because (1) I haven't been to a party in ages, so I worry what my parents might think, (2) I worry that their mates may think i'm weird so not talk to me, (3) I will struggle to socialise because I've not met these people, (4) I don't like to drink in case I make a fool of myself, (5) I worry I won't fit in.

I want to try new things. I'm fine if I do it when its with people I don't know because they are less likely to think its not the type of thing I would normally do.

I think it's social anxiety but i'm not sure. How do I get rid of this? I kinda wish I chose a Uni away from home so I could try new things without worrying what people I know will think.

Well, when I've made similar threads like this, I've been told that people are usually concentrating on themselves and not on other people. They also say it's not the end of the world when someone judges you, as you'll be judged in what ever you do. So it's best not to care what people think. Lee Evans used to be like this. He said in his autobiography that if told someone a joke that would offend someone, he would go back to their house, even if it was at midnight, to apologize.

Ask yourself: why do you worry what people think?

Thanks. I read an article on Lee Evens after you said that. It was interesting.

I do ask myself that. I don't have an answer but it doesn't stop me worrying.

Don't let other people grind you down.

With me, I learnt to overcome it over time. You need to realise that people don't care nearly as much as you may think they do. They're too busy in their own little bubbles. We all are. When I accepted that this type of anxiety slowly left me.
