I know quite a few people who do - it seems to be fairly common to know it by heart.

I know it by heart because of the amount of jobs I've applied for... I don't think we're "meant" to, though... as long as you keep the card in your purse when you're at interviews and things.

We're not 'meant to', but I think I've entered it in to so many forms that I just remember it off the top of my head now

    I do.

Not too sure why. I've never made a conscious effort to remember it.
It does have a nice ring to it, which may explain it.

I don't think I've even looked at mine since I applied to UCAS/SFE more than three years ago.

This. I once forgot mine as I was attending interviews every other day. I informed the man interviewing me that I didn't have it, and he said something to the effect of, 'oh well, you can simply provide us with it at a later da-', before I blurted out the entire thing in a very Rain Man-esque fashion.

I know mine, only because I have written it out so many times when going for a new job.

I know my national insurance number by heart. I read it first then memorized it and I just know it without having to think about it which means its quicker for me to fill in application forms and stuff as i don't have to waste time rummaging around looking for my national insurance card.

But also because I have applied for loads of jobs that I just know it now.

Does anyone on here have the opening letters 'ZZ' in their NI number?

I know mine has an 8 in it somewhere. That is the extent of my NIN knowledge

No, but you will find that life becomes much easier when you do learn it.

On numerous occasions I have needed my NI number at short notice and it would just be a pain to have to go and consult paperwork in order to get it written down.

Along with such things as bank account number and sortcode, passport number and expiry date, significant other's birthday/your anniversary, all these things should be committed to memory.

'8' means high IQ. All of the digits mean something to the authorities. :cyber:

Does anyone on here have the opening letters 'ZZ' in their NI number?
Unlikely because ZZ prefixed National Insurance numbers are not allocated.
