Can we have some context? I vote either zombie apocalypse or Soviet invasion.

What kind of emergency are we dealing with here? If I need to run to the hills then warm/waterproof clothes, maps, compass, knife, axe, twine, a tarp, sleeping bag, means of lighting fire, water containers, water purification tablets, possibly some non-perishable food but definitely something I can use to hunt with.

I'm not sure what an emergency go bag is, but if I had one I'd put these things in:

    Chocolate
    Flask of hot water
    Cup a soup sachets
    Condoms
    Torch
    Blanket
    First aid kit
    Spare knickers
    Spare money
    Safety pins
    Hairband
    Pen & paper
    Comb

I'd definitely add condoms (water storage), tampons (excellent tinder) and water and windproof matches

I'm sure whether it's a zombie apocalypse or a Soviet invasion, the hairband and comb will serve you well :yep:

I'd probably end up forgetting it if there was ever an emergency, but I'd pack a hiking bag and check the following off:

A cheap mobile phone with good battery life
    Spare battery
    Wind-up torch
Wind-up radio, with an aviation, marine, military and civilian band
Some sort of weapon, probably a knife
Spare change of clothes, especially pants
Emergency tent thing, forgotten what it is
    Whistle, because I'm awesome
However much food and drink I can get into a bag without overfilling it
    Anything else I've missed

    water bottle
    water purification tablets
some food provisions that wouldn't go off instantly
something to heat/cook in - a mess tin or a small metal saucepan or similar.
    lighter/matches
    head torch
penknife and a separate knife (for the utility of the proper knife and the useful, compact tools on the pen knife)
small sleeping bag (just a very small, one season to keep the chill off)
    a tarpaulin
    some bits of rope
    spare pair of socks
bog roll in a waterproof bag
    spare glasses
small first aid kit which would be useful for trauma - bandages, antiseptic wipes/cream, etc. in.
money, ID (phone would come although it would be useless!)

I would also make sure I was wearing my walking boots and was wearing a waterproof jacket.

In reality, I think I would just raid my camping kit and take whatever I could fit in my 30L day sack.
